[Question for Staff] Is it illegal to blatently lie / false advertise via PM??

I am just wondering if there are any rules against people sending obvious BS PM's in regard to something they're trying to sell?

Reason I ask is because I just got a PM from someone trying to sell me a llink and he made up a complete load of feces regarding his site, most people that are in to link buying /selling know that this will be a worthless site to buy a link on since it'll be dropped on the update but this guy is conjuring up a load of crap to make it seem otherwise. To me this is basically scamming but I am curious to know the opinion here.

    Here's our exchange thus far:

I vote ban him =p. There are too many liars and cheats like him on DP we don't need any more.

The report post button is there for PM's too. It can be used to report unsolicited Pm's.

So, check this out guys - I am the one that got in trouble by the mod for apparently posting this in the wrong section.... If that's not a kick in the pants, I don't know what is.

I post a warning about a guy running a scam in the buy and sell section about something that is regarding buying and selling and the moderator gives me a warning on my account saying what I did is against DP's rules.

Is it just me or does that seem just a little backwards to you?

Awesome that mods are handing out warnings to people that try to help out the community and keep DP quality.

Good job, bravo.... Next time there's an opportunity to help prevent someone from getting scammed, I guess I'll just keep it to myself so I don't get my DP account banned / infracted again...

    1. If you want to post, do it in the right section (not that difficult). If you want to complain about other people breaking the rules, it's a good idea to follow them yourself, no? (And no, I'm not the mod who gave you an infraction -- which was only a yellow warning to begin with.)

    2. We don't get involved in private business disputes, so if you were asking for link sale offers in a thread or something it's between the two of you to hash it out.

    3. If you didn't solicit the link sale offers in any way, then it's PM spam, so you should use the report spam option from the PM and we'll deal with it.

Just a hypothetical question, if you see a bank robber escape by car, do you rob another car to go after the bank robber?

Who ever said I was not trying to buy some links, I said the guy was running a scam and blatantly making crap up.

Thanks for actually reading the thread before laying your wisdom on us.

No, you rob another bank and buy a new car and hire a private investigator to track him down.....

Was this suppose to have something to do with this thread?

My post simply meant to imply that since you asked for PM's there's nothing that anyone can/will do about it.

And learn to use multi-quote please. This button > [IMG]

That doesn't necessarily apply to this thread, unless you're assuming that the OP is the person who owns the bank..

In which case, hell yes, I'd rob a hundred cars to go after the bank robber; because it directly involves me. x.x

As for this d-bag..I wish they'd ban him, but unfortunately there isn't substantial enough evidence..justice (not on dp, in general) isn't strong enough for that
