Works fine for me try some proxy perhaps Also read http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=804729
Ok thanks, I've managed to read both those threads... All I can say is WOW! An important point I saw made was the lack of bulk discounts. Those vBulletin users that have multiple licenses... 5... 10... 20... 30... Are going to be faced with a very tough decision. I've also seen how vBulletin is using the latest version and have to say it looks like crap. Might as well move back to phpBB... LOL short-sighted greed is terrible! IB will ruin vBulletin if they don't get their act together fast.
Hmm i would say Shift to IPB.. IPB people seem to be playing their game rightly ... they even set up something for vbulletin users to choose IPB http://community.invisionpower.com/topic/296787-vbulletin-owners-handy-faqs/ Best part is passwords dont change
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?320729-Multiple-Owned-Licenses-Customers This isn't normal anymore!
And that part is official now as well... While on the surface that may not seem like it's on topic with Greed, the bottom line of NIXING complaints IS to make it look like they ROCK! vBSEO does the same thing... and honestly it is a HUGE turn off. How am I to find the real opinions on a forum if I can't check it's own forum *shrug* I guess real customer reviews will be found on places like Digital Point, which is good for Shawn I reckon
It's interesting that IPB pulled nearly the same thing on their clients about 7-8 years ago. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=326813 After promising that they would always do a free version, they discontinued it after a few years. I remember how we had to move folks from IPB to others platforms when they did this because no one want ed to shell out the extra cash. Funny how people forgot that.
People will have forgotten about this in a few years as well... likely when they start charging for phpBB or something
I'm stuck in the same boat. I have multiple licenses, but they want me to pay FULL price for new ones now. I don't have the $1000+ to fork over. I hate to say it, but IB is punishing their customers for a license system change THEY wanted. NO customer agreed or signed off on this new pricing structure. They just threw it at us and said pay us more or your screwed. They put their most loyal customers in the hole. All I know is I'm NOT forking over anymore money to them.
I'm glad to say that a lot of upset vBulletin customers have already switched over to my MyBB-oriented web hosting
The saddest thing about all this is that it could have been handled different. The new vB 4.0 could have been an opportunity for both existing customers as well as new ones, with ultimate benefit for Internet Brands. Everybody could have been huge winners with the new version. The way it was handled has however made it a terrible threat for vB (and IB) as well as a uncomfortable chaos for all existing and future vB customers...
Decoded : To the vast majority of our customers that we have screwed over the years and that have responded to the vB4 Pre-sales event negatively with their responses {we shamelessly deleted them}, we say thank you to all you helpless loyal customers and will do everything in our power to go as low as we can with all our unethical future business module.
Agreed! It got so bad at the support forums at vB with customers threads. I went back this week and noticed it seemed quiet and positive threads there. Then I realized they had DELETED all the threads customers posted, which had ANYTHING to do with not liking the system or suggestions on how they can improve the problems there. I guess it means it's their way or no way. Customers have NO input at all. I've seen customers make input on suggestions for vB4 and the new team STILL doesn't listen. They could've fixed things if they wanted too. The problem is they don't care about customers. They BOUGHT Jelsoft/vB KNOWING how much money they could make. It was NEVER about the forum product.. it was about knowing there is a HUGE customer base for vBulletin and they can rip them all off easily. They wanted to maximize money they can get.
Well i think Free to paid is ok but asking for more cash for people who have paid is totally diffrent i guess
You know WHY people forgot about it. Because, IPB changed their ways. Now IPB grandfathers ALL their old contracts. I have a friend, who just left vB after he noticed he could renew his old IPB license from 3 years ago for $25! to IPB3! If you have a old vB right now, it's going to cost you $190 to renew to vB4. Notice the difference....... IPB learned from their mistake. vB/IB doesn't care.....
Just treat it like any software you purchase. You are paying for 4.x, you aren't paying for anything beyond that. If you buy Windows 7 now, you can't be "scared" about Microsoft maybe charging you for Windows 8.
This all sounds like great news for IPB. I have about 5 great domains that I was going to install vB on, but it's to god damn expensive.
