Is it worth to put time into learning them today?
I remember the time when BASIC was the programming language; now it doesn't exist.

As of now, all the browsers understand only HTML and i wonder if any other technology can actually replace HTML.

Well that may or may not happen.

PHP is continously upgraded by Open source developers unlike basic, so chance is pretty less for php being wiped out.

But who knows when G or M or IBM comes up with some thing new, very simple yet powerful compatible with html5, etc.,

If you want to rock in computers, you should be strong in basics and u ll be upgrading to all the new techs.

No. It will only evolve with new functions and standards but I don't feel that it's going anywhere. If you're serious about learning PHP then I would suggest visiting here: phpvideotutorials.com and of course: php.net

I totally agree with senthil_sivanath. Good reply. Why hold yourself back from learning a new way to make your brain work?

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I think someday PHP or HTML may be obsolete because nothing lasts eternally.
But, not in 10 years because HTML is supported by W3C and still improved until now.
PHP also has many communities supporting the language and many frameworks and CMS born from PHP. So, I think in 10 years, we will still see PHP and HTML.

No one can predict, just as when we were using Cobol, who knows it will be obsolete. When I started using Lynx I find it fantastic and one and only. Now it basically disappear. 10 years is a few generations for the Internet, anything goes.....

BASIC might be gone, but we still use the 'basic' underlying principles of programming (if,then, else) - even if you do learn php and it disappears at least you'll have the basics under your collar, makes it much easier to start looking at other programming languages as they are developed. ;)
