Unbelievable! Now you have to pay to offer a link exchange. It was bad enough with the sales forums, but this takes the cake.

What's next? Pay to post a tutorial? Pay to ask a question about programming? Where will it end over there?

They will soon be charging $1 for even a single post in GC or Chit Chat forum.

i guess that's not their main revenue source and they are finding that it takes them too much effort to keep the marketplace section clean and tidy (i.e. to moderate)...

so they start charging to keep only quality listings - i used to think that they're crazy... but after a while, it may not be a bad decision (at least from their perspective)...

I disagree. I think they are banking on making a lot . . . bank. on this one. It's pure greed in my opinion. I love it how many times I hear "We are charging to make it a better place". Why not just ask for more volunteers for moderators and give them an incentive?

Yeah thats true. Sitepoint is fully crap. I was an Active member there, but now i leaved sitepoint and moved here :). DP rocks. Here i post my domains etc for free, and on sitepoint you have to pay $15 to post a domain!!!!!!

Soon sitepoint will cost $10 for only logging in :D:D

scriptnest, because this model they doing now with charging works better. In case of "Looking to hire section" there are people who want to hire someone really interested in this, not just lurkers looking for bargains. If you can't pay $10 to forum which help you to hire someone , then don't think of doing some business in the first place

faroogaaa, which domains ? Do you mean you wanted to sell site and they start charging $10 for that ? Well , I am a member here and there, have little post elsewhere, just don't have a time to post much, but if you wish to sell your site I think sitepoint is better place even if you have to pay $10:D

They simply have in average a more people with more serious money, they will be more serious buyers.

    Only problem is about definitions.

If you run a forum than run a god damn forum.
If you run a market place than call it what it really is and use a decent trading platform.

Explains where the internet is heading to ;) .. "money making piece of crap" as compared to "useful research and communication tool" definition of 2000.

    fully agree...

i log into dp multiple times a day and love it here in dp :)... but for the moment, for the marketplace section, i think sitepoint has more serious players willing to spend.
