I plan to have a celebrity site with eventually 10,000 pages. Pages may need to be updated routinely. Plus I want modules (ads, etc.) that I can universally change. I understand PHP+MYSQL is likely;y better for this than aCMS like Joomla. Is there professionally made PHP MYSQL templates I can install ?? Thank you!
Is there a template for PHP-MYSQL site?? I want to have 3-4 columns with banners and images - kind of complex but fun. ???
It sounds like you need a PHP script as well as a template. I'm not sure what kind of celebrity site you're looking to start but if was a wallpaper or image-based site you could try googling for something like "php wallpaper site script".
if you want to have a wallpaper site I can give you a copy of my custom script for $100 you can check it out at myiphonebackgrounds.com If your doing more of a gossip website I would suggest wordpress which most hosting companies have a 1 click install for and there is lots of free and cheap templates. Templatemonster.com sells most templates for $50-150 and they are very easy to integrate. If you need some help setting up wordpress I can help in return for a link to my backgrounds website. PM me if you would like to discuss your site in more detail.
You could always learn how to code it yourself. It may take a while but it will assist you a lot in any future developments, and give you much more control of your website... and it is much more rewarding.
That sounds pretty daunting and time consuming to me when there are so many frameworks available already. I am pretty sure that you are right about it being rewarding but being efficient with your time can be even more rewarding. Then again, since I'm no programmer my idea of the amount of time needed to accomplish something like this maybe way off.
Thank you! I didn't expect to hear more Wordpress recommendations than for Joomla. And PHP-MySql - Are there templates for this?
It wouldn't be a very big job but I totally agree that it would be much quicker to use a script or CMS. But anyone who wants to have a go at web development should at least have a go at learning basic aspects of both server-side and client-side programming. What if something goes wrong with the script(s) that you are using? You can't always rely on other people to provide a solution... unless your paying them i suppose.
