If I am promoting one site and do it manually, is it ok just to keep adding links to various pages of the same site? Or is this seen as excessive self-promotion?

I believe this won't have any positive effect for your site ranking. All links coming from one site google will filter out and get most relevant one.
    Any other thoughts?

No one has mentioned onlywire, or addthis. Could i not just add an "addthis" button a click that everytime I did post?

Onlywire is great. But it takes about 30 mins- 1 hour to set up with one website.

How many sites do you want to submit to?
There are two very nice resources available that will submit sites to your social bookmarking accounts almost automatically.
    1)OnlyWire.com
    2)SocialPoster.com

Manual submission is a best way to do it. but of course, we want to save time and effort that's why we want to use software or services that will automate or at lest semi-automate the task. Beside socialmarker, I use onlywire.com too in bookmarking.

I think the manual submission is batter than automatic submission, we can change the title and description as per our requirement, So I will vote to manual submission. Thanks.

Automatic submission will not bring you more than 1% of the benefit of manual submission. The biggest social bookmarking websites, that can bring you the most benefit, will filter out all the automatic posted content.

You better have 20 bookmarks on the top bookmarking websites (digg, stumbleupon etc) than 500 bookmarks on free pligg installs with low traffic and zero PR.

If you want to get natural traffic you should do natural promotion.
