Backlinks from Forum Signatures

How useful is it to put a link in forum signatures when you post. If you figure that you have 600 or 700 posts on a forum and each one of those pages has a backlink to your site, wouldn't that greatly increase your site's PR? Or would it decrease from seeing too many links from the same domain?

*shrug* Considering that there are millions of links from this site, I don't think it'll make that much difference. They are links though. If you post everyday, they are new links in fact. That's how I see it.

Googs picks up the links quickly and gives you credit.

Signatures aren't the only reason you should be here though, posting meaningless comments such as "Yes, I agree" can really annoy people.

There is some great information here if you dig deep enough.

Signature links are for promotion (traffic) not for backlinks

actually you will get a boost from the signature (not much), but the problem is it's short lived. Forums have thousands upon thousands of pages constantly indexed and deindexed. Chances are half the posts you make today will be useless / deindexed within a year.

Get your ass banded around here as it's against the rules as well. They ask that you use the rep system but few people do.

I've read this 4 times, and read the guys original post...this isn't even relevant and he didn't respond with a "yes I agree", it was simply part of his point.

You may have missed boblord666's post up there. Many folks make a "Yes, I agree" post just to throw up their sigs yet again. Didn't say the original poster was doing this.

I was agreeing with those types of posts were annoying. You'll note that's the part I quoted out.

4 times, huh? And you still didn;t get it?

Forum signatures do help a little. And they can bring in some targeted visitors.

I do realize that posting simple one-liner posts are completely useless, but good advice here about the links. I figured they don't offer much backlink value on these forums, but they do drive some good traffic from people interested in my blog.

One link counted from one domain - of course not! A backlink is a backlink. Multiples may have less value, but each one counts. Why do you think sitewide links are so popular these days?! Also, inner pages usually have little to no PageRank, so you need to use some SEO tools to find out if they pass any PR or not.

Backlink is incoming link to a website. In SEO, the number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page. it indicates who is paying attention over that page.

A backlink(BL) is any link received by a web page from another one and BL also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.

They help but are not the "end all, be all" of linking. In other words every little bit helps but don't expect to land #1 because of forum backlinks.

I am just considering adding a link to my site to mostly all of the forums I post at, just to try and get some more traffic

I highly agree that traffic is the main idea of placing a link on signatures rather than backlinks.. but it help somehow in increasing SERP if the forum was relevant to your site and also do follow.

I wouldn't place it as your main strategy. But it's a nice bonus if your advertise your services as well.

The main thing to understand is that you should create quality content that is useful to people and they will start to link to you slowly over time. You can't put up a site and expect to rank well for different keyword overnight. It is just like any other business, you have to spread the word as much as possible and provide quality content. This way people help you grow the businesses in terms of spreading the word.

Forums Signatures are mainly good for traffic.
For exaple, SEO services sig will do good as it's related and some visitors could be interested.
On the other sigs like iPhone apps and Shopping are absolutely useless as they are irrelevant, off topic and look spammy.

You also have to remember that on DP everybody is fine with sigs but on many forums they are considered as spamming. So there's absolutely no point of placing them there as you get your link deleted anyway and plus you won't be able to participate in the forum.

Conclusion: As long as your links (sig or in the body of the post) are related, not frowned upon (by moderators) and your posts are good you'll definitely will benifit. Otherwise it's just a waste of time and spammy.
