Open borders are hardly the problem. US policies create terrorists. Many 3rd worlders may be poor and uneducated, but they can still figure out where the bomb that blew up mom's house came from. All they have to do is look for the US flag on the fragments... Imperialism has a proven track record of failure, from the Egyptians to the Brits.
Democracy in Iraq and possibly Afganistan will help set an example how democracy works. that could be enough
If our goal is to set up new governments, we should clearly express that. But if our goal is to go after terrorists like it was on 9/12, then our current plan doesn't accurately fit the purpose.
It's not necessarily a goal but a product from the war on terror. we removed or are removing the Hussein and the Taliban so the by product would be a democracy or democracies
I find the war on terrorism and the soliders who were killed protecing america to be very noble and well worth the fight. Finally, the fight was taken to the terrorists rather than the terrorists make the front within the US borders.
Because target a helped target b, and is part of a network that supports terrorists attacks america. If the cancer is throughout the entire hand, treating one finger isn't going to accomplish that much.
Err.. I know he's dead. What videos? WTF are you talking about. The last video of him was prior to the invasion. Dude, stay away from the blue pills... Now I know you are just being funny... Thanks for that! Did not notice the sarcasm until you mentioned little Julie. Thanks again!
The Fox GOP Network is done intimidating the Obama administration. I love that they've finally stood up for themselves and the American people and said enough is enough! We will not let your witch hunts destroy our democracy any longer. For years Republicans have been calling real news networks "liberal media" as a way of getting their supporters to disregard the real news and to only listen to their talking points, and now that a Democratic President's administration has called out the Republican controlled TV network that is the Fox GOP Network we're supposed to think that's some crazy new thing? Ha! It's a taste of your own medicine kids, how does it taste? The difference is, of course, that what Obama is doing is based on the TRUTH. The Fox GOP Network really is a 24/7 Republican Commercial. Meanwhile, Republicans talk about the "liberal media" as a way of suppressing the truth.
Yeah, Zibby I am really pleased to see the Federal Government interfering with the 1st Amendment. Makes perfect sense. Gives me a real Chavez feeling... Awesome!!!
"After all this is the guy who tried to kill my dad." Yes, it may all boil down to a personal vendetta. There is some evidence that he made the same statement several months before twin towers went down.
Nate: I think it goes back to a group called the PNAC, which was a neo-conservative think tank developed in the 1990's. Many of its members made up portions of the Bush administration, populated the Pentagon, and were deeply involved in Middle East and Iraq policy. here are a variety of writings by them before 2000 http://www.newamericancentury.org/iraqmiddleeast2000-1997.htm According to Paul O'Neil, who was the first Sec of the Treasury under Bush II, and by virtue of that office, included in security talks, from the very first sessions, the security folk focused on Iraq. The writings from the 90's suggested that the PNAC people believed the US should take out Saddam Hussein, and in so doing change the nature of the mid east. Further interesting information. At some point in 2002 it's been reported that the Israeli's learned the Bush administration was focused on Iraq, and were planning to attack. Sources suggest the Israeli's told the Americans "forget Iraq, Iran is the real scary nation in the mid east. Further sources suggest that part of the PNAC thinking was that Iraq was weak and would be easy to defeat. I'd source this stuff on the web for you, but its time consuming. Why Iraq? I think the Bush administration experts had it in for Iraq from the beginning. Then they came up with reasons to attack. Maybe Bush II bought into it, in part because Saddam went after his father, but I suspect the guys with all the foreign affairs experience were directing the efforts. (how do I know--I wasn't there, though)...and it doesn't matter. The administration targeted Iraq in early 2001, long before 9/11. 9/11 became an easy reason to carry out that which the PNAC folks had been calling for since the mid to late 1990's.
Did it ever occur to any of the dullards here that sometimes things are as they appear, not as the Kool-Aid drinkers believe they should be?
If a right winger is yapping nonsensically on Fox GOP Network and no one other than hardcore right wing nuts hears it, does it really mean anything? No. I don't think so. That's really the key point to the WH vs. Fox GOP battle. It's important to for people who aren't as plugged in to what's going on to know that Fox GOP isn't a "biased news network" no, they're not even a news network at all. It's just one long commercial for corporate/right wing interests.
But Earl, you have to remember, "I'm the decider..." Everything you say is true about PNAC, Rummy, Cheney, Wolfowitz, et. al., but in the end they could only make their sales pitch, er, recommendations, to Georgy Porgy. As bad as it was, I suspect Oliver Stone's portrayal of Georgy Porgy was painfully near the truth. Incapable of grasping the big picture stuff, the fact that, "this is the guy that tried to kill my dad," might well have been the deciding factor. The more pragmatic neo-cons would have accepted that as being just as good.
I consider the liberal media i.e. CNN, MSNBC and the rest of the left wing nuts to be satellite offices of the Obama white house. What makes Obama a wannabe dicatatorial fascist he is actually trying to deny access to a news organization that he doesn't like because they don't kiss his buttocks which is what he used to from left wing media lapdogs. Obama is an enemy of freedom, if that freedom hurts his political agenda.
Yup, Willyb. At the end of my piece I referenced how George the II might well have weighed revenge against Saddam for going against his father. From then on, all they needed were excuses. I wasn't in the administration. I don't know how it evolved. Who knows, somewhere between an administration full of PNAC members who had targeted Iraq years earlier, and a Pres. who didn't know anything about the Middle East, but did know that Saddam targeted his father, it appears that from the very beginning the Bush II administration targeted Iraq.
Everyone up in arms over the supposed suppression of Fox's "free speech" by The White House needs to read this: It Turns Out Fox Made Up The Whole Thing. It was nothing but more lies from Fox. It's just them trying to play the role of the "persecuted" so they can play up this fantasy of President Obama as being a "dictator" (which is particularly absurd in comparison to the Bush/Cheney admin.) FOX = LIES.
