    try use text ads and put the ads at visible to visitor eyes.. :)

    I reckon social networking sites have a similar ctr to forums which is low, because users are there to chat with others, not click on ads.

    This happen because You have a huge content website. So people are busy in watch videos, reading... so very few will click.

    Try Image/video ads.

    I think it will be good if you use google search box

    The sides and the center are usually the best locations for ads. Try that..
