It's time to change my digital camera (I don't think my trusty Kodak DC280 will survive being dropped again). I am looking for a good replacement, but there are so many to choose from. It seems that most modern digital cameras give awful pictures, but no one cares because they are 96 billion megapixels whereas thier friend's camera is only 95.8 billion megapixels! I want something in the 4 to 8 megapixel range, with an optical zoom and a really good picture quality. SD would probably be the best flash medium. I would like reasonable video recording too (as it can be handy) but that is not a show-stopper. It would be great to be able to record sound tags for each picture - at the time, or later when reviewing (but again this is not vital). A good point-and-shoot mode is important, but I would also like to be able to do some advanced stuff when I feel like it. I would probably go up to about $600-$700, but I will be buying in the UK so something that goes for $599 in the US may be $900 over here Any recommendations for models, or good review sites?
www.dpreview.com is a good site to check out. Read their full review articles and at the end, look at their recommendations. I personally use Canon IXUS800IS and IXUS65. Both serve me well.. 6MP, 4x Optical, SD Card.
My wife has a nice camera... http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/casioz750/ which gives some nice shots. Another one that caught my interest because of the optical zoom was over on John Chow's blog... http://www.johnchow.com/index.php/feel-the-power-of-12x-zoom/
The newer Kodak models are really nice IMO. It keeps amazing me with its quality. The latest models allow you to zoom whislt filmeing and they aren't as bulky anymore either. I'd stick with the Kodak EasyShare range if you're not fussed about photography 'ethics' like true colours. I don't mind the skies being a bit more blue than it was in real life, only makes the photo look more amazing.
A friend just bought the Sony Cybershot with 5x optical zoom and 6.0 megapixel. The camera is the slim design with a big lcd screen on the back. Has all the features and takes great pics & easy to use. Col
How about the Sony N1? I'm in love with that camera, going to buy it in the near future if i have the money
