My question is this, in wordpress I have read you can change a template to however you would like it to look. My question is by how much? Do you have to keep where your banner is, and possible positions of your pictures or is it better to find a template that has positions in the area you would like. I know this is probably stupid but I am new at this. Any input would be appreciated :)

I would like to edit my current theme, I am just not sure if it is easier to look for a free theme for the positions of where I would like them or if it is just as easy in a theme where you have to move items around.

Youa re looking at customizing a wordpress theme for your own usage. Then you need to approach web designers who have the capability, expertise and skill to perform such tasks. Of course that might cost you, unless you can find somebody who will do it for free.

If you are good at handling css n html files then theme editing shouldnt be a difficult task for you. However in case you dont have any idea as to how these things work, then hire a professional designer and get yourself a unique blog design.

    Hi there,

Customising a WordPress theme is certainly a possibility, in fact I have customised every website that I own that uses this CMS so that they are all unique. However, without some knowledge of coding, particularly HTML, PHP and CSS you will struggle to do this on your own. If you don't have that knowledge then you have three options:

    - take the time to learn it, it will take a while and will require patience but web-coding is a useful skill to have for the future and any other sites that you might like to tweak.

    - pay for a designer to make the alterations for you, it wouldn't take an expert very long to do so hopefully shouldn't cost too much. Looking at the code before and after could also help to give you an insight as to the changes that need to be made for the desired affect (assuming you have some coding knowledge).

    - look for a new theme that meets your needs in the first place. There are so many free themes out there that it might be worth just having a look to see if you can find one that works. You could also consider paying a little bit to get a theme that looks a bit nicer.

Hope that helps a bit. :)

Wordpress is completely open source, you can change as much as you like. Most of my sites look nothing like a typical wordpress layout.
