There is not only one. However, some affiliate programs pay lifetime commissions and from my experience, these programs are the most profitable in the long run.

until you find one that you feel is going good.
i recommend signing up to 10 affiliate programs
and then focus on 1 or 2 that you feel has the kind of campaign that you convert into $$$ for you.

These are not affiliate programs but MLM where you must pay to have right to sell the product. I don't say if it is good or bad but affiliate programs simply work in another way.

Ebay's program is pretty good. They have changed the payment scheme so that you can't just throw junk traffic at them , you have to maximize the chance that the visitors are folks who will buy, and buy soon after clicking.

Yes, give yourself several options-join at least 6 or 7 different programs to give yourself a wider choice of offers to your potential clients.

If you asked years ago I would have went with something competitive, but the "best" at this point is probably something (a niche) you can dominant. For instance, I was looking to buy a new bullworker (exercise equipment), and found the results (reviews, yahoo answers, etc) were saturated with a handful of sites, probably all owned by the same person or group of people. Each one sells for 100 a pop.

Think of something relatively obscure, write a bunch of informative articles, add an affiliate link/image within the post and your good to go. Could even use a free blog host such as wordpress or blogger. Now if you want big $$, I'm sure sex toys, computer accessories, ringtones, and memorabilia all do well.

I used to be an eBay power seller and we are supposed to make the most, but with paying money out for ads, purchases and the auction costs my $1,500 a month was getting eaten into badly! Now I'm a megashare affiliate and I don't have to advertise or any of the above I'm earning over $1,000 a month (I'm only working on it a few hours a week, about to go full time) and it all goes into my pocket! So as someone who's been there and done it, I'd say try megashare, it's free so there's certainly nothing to lose
