Do a simle test and all this discussions about PR will stop. First: Get one link, with an anchor for a ST your site ranks poor, on a relevant/theme related page with PR 0-1 and observe the ranking improvement. Second: Do the same but place the link on a (let's say PR5) page and observe the ranking improvement. I suspect you will never again state that PR is not important and you will know why people pay high prices for high PR links.
I would add a qualifier, quality traffic. You can get tons of low-quality traffic and it won't do you any good. You need traffic from the right demographic in developed countries if you're going to monetize your site, whether through ads or anything else.
People and the SEO firms are spending much money to get few PR links in order to get their webpages rank high. That's what I agree with you. Thank you.
Yeah all to true, it's no secret that leads from visitors in the G7/G8 countries are the best in terms of raw sales, ppc, ppl etc. Fortunately contextual advertising helps for all the other visitors though the ppc is quite low. However if your site has a steady amount of traffic from countries outside the G7/G8 group you could find affiliate programs native to your audience and sculpture the look and feel of the site and it's commercial model/s accordingly. I run a network of proxies that receive such traffic and I've got language packs installed which helps explain the products on offer Ultimately it's best to understand your page's in the SERP's and the popularity of it in regards to the visitors country of origin visiting them. I use Google insights for this. The old trick to achieve good quality traffic is to geo-target them with specific keywords like cheap iphones in Sacramento California or discount airfare tickets in London UK then you definitely know what type of traffic you should receive. I think as more indexed pages as better but not in one day Adding content gradually - this is the good way
Barre Tire- "Yes Strong backlinks can bring Strong PR but not neccesarily traffic BUT Strong content brings Strong traffic" Wow, That's good! I guess I've been focusing more on getting good SERPs then creating a useful website. Jim 4767 - Thanks.
surva, Google dropping PR from their webmaster tools has nothing to do with how Google ranks sites. It is just more of their policy to reduce webmaster's fascination with PR and the buying/selling of PR. People are going to repeat what they've heard most: quality content, but not everyone can write fresh, unique, interesting content. Nothing has changed in Google's algo. Keep getting links. You bought some high PR sites, you could even create some sites of your own and give yourself links. There are other ways not discussed here. good luck, Bompa
Good quality content is OK if your a blogger etc. If your website is ecommerce (product and cart) and you can't really promote any other way other then being on page 1 of Google for its keywords then anchor backlinks is what is important. I mean there is only so much you can write about if you sell plain t-shirts for example. Content 10% links 90% (unless your a blogger) Writing good content and waiting for people to link to you is also OK if your not in much of a hurry to make some money. Some high PR off topic links can still help a lot blended in with the majority of on topic links.
i think PR do have an effect on website traffic. In order to be in good position in Google, you will have to increase the amount of backlinks.
Well For me most important thing Is SERP Ranking of my site , i don't really care about PR of my site, but if we are working for our clients and he demand about pr then we care about pr, otherwise mostly client say That they want That position, So we care about just that position . And if i am working on my personal blog or website then i would love to have high pr on it, just to impress other people , not to impress visitors of my sites, and google. just to impress Pro's, so i think pr is also have top priorities For experts and pro's.
Quality, unique content is what counts. For example on a new blog a post a day that is well-written well help you massively in the long run. I don't think PR makes a huge difference, I have some old sites with PR0 that rank above those that are PR6 for the same keyword!
And if your not using Twitter to tweet your posts you should start. Microsoft is announcing today that a deal has been made to incorporate the Twitter feed into Bing
