If you owe the money, then simply pay it. If you don't owe the money, then dispute it. If you owe the money and are just trying to avoid paying, then you are nothing but a common thief.
No Evidence = Rubbish apparantly for the Debt collectors... If someone did owe money they would just escape and go free e.g. Gone back to there country.
The important thing to do is to find out about the laws in your state. Here are some of the the things they could do to you Mess up your credit Sue you Harass you with phone calls If you can afford to pay it and it is a legitimate debt, then find a way to pay it. If you communicate with them, usually they will try to work with you, if they are a legitimate company. rebuilding credit is a pain in the butt. Trust me I know
Debt collecting agencies have every right to make reasonable contact with the person owing them money, you can however ask not to be contacted at certain times and on specific numbers
Debt collectors are people too - treat them nicely Seriously, if you owe the debt and you know you do, just pay it, it saves everyone hassle in the long run. They may have left you alone for a few months but that does not mean they have forgotten you. It is not uncommon for a debt collector to "forget" you for a few months and move onto other things, and then give you a call at a later date - it can catch you off guard They have a multitude of rules and regulations to follow and the job is regulated to death. However, a good debt collector WILL get you to pay eventually. As mentioned in the thread, depending on your location in the world, not paying can have a long lasting impact on your future credit trading. btw: I'm a debt collector
I am sure its not true because someone who sold a house to me who owns alot of company money got away to be honest. Not sure how he did it but many letters kept flying in and its been years and hes still alive and running (Free).
Oh well you didn't mention you know someone. Well then by all means ignore your bills and the debt collections. No doubt because someone you knew got away with it you will too. I mean you say he is still alive. That alone makes me doubt that these debt collectors are serious. Surely they would have killed him or at least broke his knee-caps by now.
If it is at the debt collection stage and your back is up against the wall, you can negotiate a settlement. It will appear on your credit report as being a settlement though.
