Great info, I wonder if it's true. A lot of people are still using youtube, but Facebook are into their game.
you are right, it can help google to earn more but google is always against pop-ups, floating ads etc but i dont think youtube will be closed becuase just like google search youtube is monopolist in vidoes sites as well.
I always (and still) wondered why youtube is free, i hope they will keep it free, honestly i think youtube is the no1 website on the internet. It should have PR 11
How can video sites not be making money? They are always making money. The thing is the more and more popular they get the more money needs to be spent on being able to support all the traffic. Then they advertise more and then get more traffic and have to spend more money and advertise more to get more traffic which means they need to spend more money on supporting that traffic and then they spend more money on advertising to get some of that money back and it goes round and round in circles. This is how it is with YouTube every day.
Andy Beal just posted some information about this http://www.marketingpilgrim.com/2009/10/youtube-not-so-stupid.html
Hello... This is an old article from a few months ago... 4/14/2009 then they came out with the full length movie and a featured videos and other monetizing ways so i dont think this still applys.. thx malcolm
I know Youtube will never close, I mean is google going to say we made a big F'up? They will instead make it work.
no youtube will still be around. It managed to run just fine without Google and i don't understand why google invested as much as they did
Unworkable? Google just made another worldwide brand. Just like the term google is associated by many with online research, the same is with youtube. If someone did anything, there will always be the unavoidable reply 'You should be on youtube'. Youtube is a source of entertainment and interesting stuff. As a last action, google could enforce a fee for having access to certain areas on there. I know I would pay.
I think they got enough money even from such loss, the profit report of google is released and they have made something around 1 billion in this quater. So even if they get loss they can very well stand it because owning and running a site like youtube is a prestige, its just like owning a 5 star and 7 star restaurant, you cant expect profit but you will create a fear in the market.
Think about what would happen if youtube was to close. As mentioned above other video hosts wouldn't be able to cope, not to mention all the private users who would loose their content etc.
I think this is a good example at just how much money it costs to run such a high traffic video sharing site. I don't think this will be the end of youtube though. They will come up with some new advertising tactics and start earning more from the site.
this info isn't true. there are lots of site to close down, they canclose all of those like orkut but not yt.
I bet Youtube wouldn't be losing so much money if they didn't delete all the "good" videos in the name of copyright. Why on earth would a fan-made Anime Music Video be deleted for copyright? How could that ever hurt a band or the show? In my opinion, it helps both because it makes people who like it want to go watch the show or go buy the music CD. Youtube also has a lot of policies to silence controversial people and that is why it's not as popular as it once was.
