So what does that mean? End of Youtube? How is this going to effect webmasters making money on Youtube? No more "free" advertising?

Is that article hinting that YT makes $350,000/day?

The biggest problem is that the internet is using the same basic archaic technology that it always did. This is why it should be replaced by the Grid :D

I'm sure all of the YT competitors (Veoh, etc) would die from traffic overload if YT ever went down. It would be a catastrophe for online video.

Damn, I didn't know they didn't make profit from YouTube. That explains why they have Google ads there!

I am not sure where(probably techcrunch) but i was reading a article where it was said the google is starting to earn a pretty decent amount from advertising in youtube. And in coming months it will turn profitable.

Google has started making more than $350k from YouTube. The expenditure might be $2 million a day, but I'm sure Google knows how to figure things out and make gold from thrash ;)

video sharing is expensive. unless Google come up with a good plan to monetize the website, they indeed have to sell or close it.

Serving videos for free always was an unworkable idea. It really annoyed me when YouTube was bought by Google and YouTube was touted as the greatest thing since sliced bread - it was unfair to solid startups which get less traffic but which actually make money.

Google makes so much from other sources that I highly doubt they would shut down youtube over money.

I dont think this is real.... because google is making so much loss they would have shut it down immediately if something survive through recession then it must be some profit making...

    This looks like unreal...

youtube has never made money, the same with Twitter.

Would I be surprised, if I woke up tomorrow and saw YouTube closed? No I wouldn't. Just Like I wouldn't be surprised to wake up and see Twitter closed.

Google is doing pretty good in other area's to keep certain lack luster divisions a float, their stock is still earning and is worth plenty. When you see their numbers start to drop in the stocks, and they start taking on more debt and less income, then watch for them to start to consolidate things like YouTube and Google Voice, and drop a lot of their projects that are failures.

Google shutting down youtube. Now that's a scary idea (for some). Although google would never shut down youtube (it's waaay too popular) , we will see more and more ads on the videos, that's for sure.

As for my personal opinion, I think the youtube shutdown would be great news , as it would leave room for a lot of video business .:D

Well the very reason Google bought utube was surely for advertising purposes?

But I guess people want a place where they get away from adverts, we are constantly bombarded with them every day, I know I have never clicked on an ad on utube.

I guess when you go to utube your just wanting to have fun and when you are using the search engine you are looking for something and are more likely to click on an ad.

You can have the most popular site in the world, but if it doesn't make you money, then what's the point....but I'm sure Google will find a way to make cash from Youtube - they'll have to start charging corporates for it maybe.
