You need to install this MOD: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=1005515

Just installed it in a few minutes on localhost, it's nothing tricky. Just be aware you're modifying mostly the core phpBB files, and this is likely to cause one or two clashes when it comes to upgrading to phpBB 3.0.6 (Which is just around the corner).

    ;)

i'm surprised there isn't an option in the admin panel to disallow guest browsing.
you have to install a mod for that?
just another reason to go with SMF.

Im quite sure there is that option, just go to the "guest" permissions in ACP and set "Can see board" to "No" and it should work :p

That's correct, another example of phpBB3 making something that should be simple...difficult. Like setting permissions, installing a MOD (plugin / hack / whatever...), etc etc...

That would just make all of the forums invisible and display "This board has no forums" message - that would be somewhat misleading. Also it doesn't show the login form.

FYI...Mybb offers these permissions as default in case you want software that's actually functional without dozens of core edits like Quick Reply.
