Quite surprising for microsoft to actually spend more time getting it right. I have held on long and hard to XP -hearing about the nightmares of vista...I think a New PC case and windows 7 should rock..........

heh heh ... having 100 open windows/tabs, to me, is like having 100 email addresses .. no sense in it.

I suppose I'll eventually try the Win7 .. probably after Microsoft issues an sp1, 2, and 3 for it, like they did with all of the others.

This crashing thing is what I could never really ever figure out about XP.

I reformat my machines about once a year, and even with that, I've never known XP to crash .. at least my XP anyway.
The only two OS's that Microsoft put on, that crashed all the time, and very conveniently, was WinME, and Vista .. two totally worthless pieces of garbage I might add. But Win98, SE, 2k, and XP have all performed for me exceedingly well. Win95 and 3.01 were the exception rather than the rule so they don't count.

    Anyhow .. like I said .. I'll get around to Win7 eventually.

Vista was so bad, even after the service packs, that I downgraded a couple of machines that came with Vista OEM, to WinXP-pro

the problem with windows 7 is that I'm using a lot of software that doesn't even run on vista lol, so i might have to wait a bit longer

I had similar problem, i tried compatibility mode (xp sp2) at the time of installation of that exe and it works fine in Win 7. Usually that feature doesn't seem to work as it has to. But in Win 7, it works correctly for me.

Had problems with xampp 1.7, so upgragded to 1.7.2 which works fine.

I'm also running W7 (retail release/7600 - all legal). It's great. Much faster than Vista, even as fast as XP I'd say. Graphics are great, it is really awesome. I'm glad to see the back of Vista, even though it gave me hardly any problems.

One thing I really like is the snipping tool... and the task bar... and the search function, it's MUCH faster than Vista's... heck, I could write a list on the things I think are better and I'd be here all day!

I did a clean install from 32bit Vista to 64bit Windows 7 - without finding any x64 drivers, yet Windows 7 automatically found all of them - gfx card drivers, input, the lot!

I was contemplating getting a Mac, but W7 just does it for me. Pat on the back for Microsoft, good job.

How is it with programs? My fear is that I will install it and my apps will not be compatible with it.

I have installed many programs, all are working fine. One is exception, xampplite but i was using older version of xampp i updated that to latest and the problem was ok. For other softwares you can choose the compatibility installtion (u can select windows xp sp2 there)

Nero 6.6 Imaginary drive didn't work (very old one)

You can't blame windows 7 for such small mistakes.

I like the speed, no crash and no driver installation.

It looks good, but like many of you, I think I'll wait for SP1.
At least before installing Win7 on any front-line build.

    Ain't XP Pro great?

Well, how do you feel now?

It's not faster than XP, for gaming anyway.
    Either that or it's unstable.
I have a high end computer, and can run games on ultra, with xp.
With Windows 7, on medium, fps is extremely low.
