Nice link, that's the best browser speed comparison i've ever seen with the way they present the data. Interesting to see Firefox faster than Chrome on pageload times in that one. I run Firefox with the entire profile and page cache in RamDisk so mine's "way" faster than Chrome out of the box even with my 40 addons. Although the machine the testing was done on and OS can skew the data around a lot.
IE8 performs much better than all previous versions. It is my opinion. For me it works faster than firefox but i use firefox for its addons i need daily.
IE8 is quite good. I like it. The websites look great on it. Still a bit slower than FF based on what I've observed, but definitely a good upgrade from previous versions.
IE8 has really improved over the previous versions, remember most of you may like firefox better but IE will always remain "King of the Browsers".
ie was only ever king of browsers because microsoft made it freeware. otherwise netscape would owned it. these days firefox is the best because of its plug ins and functuality. firefox ftw!
A good amount of people have switched away from IE and probably won't switch back (like me) now that they are used to the other browsers, like FF for the addons.
Since IE8 came out, Microsoft has lost 6% or more of the browser market and has lost 35% over the last 5 years. You too are wrong.
I can agree with this only inasmuch as IEX contains much more backweb components than any of the other browsers do. And they could stand to revamp their rendering engine a bit. Other than that, IEX isn't any slower or faster than Firefox. Firefox has become much slower over the past 18 months, with their slowest most resource spending version 3.05. The reasons for Firefox slowdowns lately have been due to much needed security enhancements. As Firefox becomes more well known and accepted across the board, the slower it will go as more and more security features are written into it on account of all of the intrusion attempts it will receive because of it's growing popularity. The study didn't specify if all of the defaults, other than a slight mention of caching, were in place on all of the browsers tested. IEX can blaze if one were to turn off all of the backweb features that are turned on by default, and Firefox can drag, if one were to load it full of 3rd party enhancements and plugins, that were designed for it. The fastest browser out there currently, is Opera. Because it already doesn't handle JAVA well, it blazes into those big heavy news, youtube, and myspace websites like it's nobody's business .. Both FF and IEX have issues of one sort or the other with these very same sites. I've turned back my version of Firefox, because the latest build of it reminded me too much of IEX. And, I turned back my version of IEX from 8 to 7 because of the many site rendering issues IEX 8 has. I use Opera as my default however ..
Have you done equivalent testing to show this? CNET and ArsTechnica say IE is slower than all of them, too. Again, what you are saying is the total opposite of what this study, CNET and ArsTechnica (among others like Lifehacker) have all been saying: that Chrome and Firefox are the fastest browsers. Where is your data? This reminds me of the people who said Vista was wonderfully speedy if you turned off all its features, too. iow, you want to compare IE with everything turned off to Firefox with everything turned on. In addition, you want to add the future burden of security you are predicting will happen without any direct knowledge of it, I'm sure. btw, at the last security contest, the guy who won two years in a row said Firefox is the most difficult browser to crack on Windows. He said, what most people forget is it's not the browser they're trying to break but the operating system. The browser is just a doorway sometimes. You are the only person I know who calls Internet Explorer IEX. That's a new one and I visit quite a number of forums, newsgroups, etc.
I hear there are browsercap tests that establish the speed of browser rendering by trying to render different web page objects on the same page. I forgot the urls/links but I believe Chrome was the fastest, followed closely by Firefox and IE. I dont find any difference in speed between firefox and Ie renderings. I would rather use IE8 if only it were a tad faster when opening new tabs. Its just too unacceptably slow.
Nothing is the best performance. Last some day, I use Firefox, and It's usually crash and my memory usage is so high -> My computer is slower. Theb, I use Google Chrome but some flash site is work incorrectly . . . bla bla. So I setup all browser and use them xyz
