Isnt there a Three-Ad Limit per page with Adsense?

and I was told and read on the net that Google will ban you if you post more than three ads on any one page with Adsense?

Than how is it possible that one of the TOP BigBoards is posting FIVE for the longest time?

    What am I missing?

    Thanks

Maybe you have ad units, link units, and search or a combination of them.

    thanks

I thought you could only have a total of 3 ad units/link units combined and then search is separate

    You can try this page:
    https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=10036
Do you have too many ad units on your site?
Our policies permit publishers to place the following number of ads on a webpage:

    * Up to three ad units
    * Up to three link units
    * Up to two search boxes

If you've placed more than the permitted number of ads on a webpage, ads will only show in the units that do not exceed the allotted amount.
