Hey Everyone, I'm curious, what would be the comparative power of a PR7 dofollow link with a random anchor, compared to with a relevant anchor? Let's say, isntead of "web design" i have "John Doe". As an approximate percentage, what would the value of this PR7 link be against it's original?
Nobody really knows the answer because nobody works for Google here. I will give you how I think they are weighed. Some of the value depends on what the site is about and where the link is located. If you get a pr 7 link on a page about web design and the anchor is "web design", then you are going to get a decent amount of link juice for the keyword "web design". However, if you use "John Doe" on a web design themed site, and your website has "web design" in the heading tag and in the content, I think you will get some value as well. You won't get nearly as much benefit as you would if you had "web design" as the anchored keyword. I do believe that you will get some value from it because the search engines will analyze what your page is about. If the engines realize that it is about "web design", then they may give you some value for the keyword "web design" even if you have "John Doe" as the anchor.
Hello... Well im sure they take a peak every once in a while just to see whats going around in the webmasters forums but doubt they would divulge any info... I tend to agree with you as regardless of the anchor used it would still have an effect on serps even if its only a small % due to it being a higher PR7 link for that given "anchor used". As for using "john doe" as the anchor and thinking it will help you rise in serps for term "web design" then i would have to disagree and think that the site would rise for only the keyword anchor used. just my guess nothing more.. lol i never tried but it would be an experiment thx m1
Use the keywords for sure in your anchor text. Using your example, it puts the control in your hands to definitively tell Google that the target page of that PR7 page's link is about "web design".
Still very powerful because you will gain a lot of authority from the PR7 link, even without anchor text benefits.
Anchor links can help your visitors navigate sections of a long page by taking them directly to a particular area of the page. Google doesn't index anchored links however they do add them to your 'SiteLinks' on their SERPS for example. As you can see in the above image, the "Syntax" link is an anchored link to the Syntax part of the page explaining what it is.
Yes the anchor text is the key in keyword harvesting and drive traffic to your website, and some one said its not relevant but most of us believe it has the value...
Good read.. But i think it's often best to use a relative anchor when submitting links especial a PR7.. i wouldn't waste a PR7 link on a random name "John Doe".. Good luck
It'll still be powerful, but towards what? You can throw all the power in the world into the ability to squish grass under your feet, at the end of the day it's still a pointless ability. Without anchor text, your throwing all the power at nothing. If you use anchor text, then you're throwing that power at a search term that will get you visitors, otherwise, you're just getting a powerful link to your site, one that really isn't power at all.
So i have a web site that sells greeting card displays. Based on the discussion here, the best thing i could do would be to get other sites that are related to greeting cards and stationary to link to me, using the anchor text "greeting card display racks" or something like that? Would it help if I posted on a forum that is related to greeting cards, with link there? Or is that not as effective as an actual link on a permanent web site? silverstarcabinets.com Thanks. Helix
I think its the juice from the high PR site thats most important and the anchor text just goes into the mix of anchor texts to your site gives google and indication of what your site is about. I have done lots of experimentation and personally think the age of the link is the most important in giving link juice!
Filter the link. Have the PR7 random anchor text lead to your blog or similar site on another domain. Have the blog then link to your main site. That way you filter the link to have both PR and relevancy.
