Its not looking good IMO. Still suggest you to go with Italics if possible.

italicized or maybe in quotes "TikTok", or an asterisk with an embedded link or a mouseover or something with the original name (formerly: soinso)

Well it's temporary, it goes away after 90 days, so...

And can't do anything with their old username (including mouseover).

I suppose the italic isn't too bad... Will do that for a bit and see what people think.

The (changed) bit kinda looks like it's part of the username. Maybe if it was smaller, or if it were in tags people would get the meaning behind it.
But I prefer the linethrough compared to the (changed). :)

I tried it within tags already and it did ugly things since it makes the whole username take more vertical space.

Well, italics are definitely much better :D

There is one on dnf, not sure if it's custom or not.

    No.. that's ugly

I don't mind having my old username displayed in the signature or title. People would surely see that. That could be an option too.

Also I think 90 days is too long. How about just keep the change 2 weeks? If you're afraid of someone doing this to misuse the system for spam/scam it's about the time that takes to create a new account and add some posts etc, so they usually wouldn't wait long.

Most people don't change the username with any bad intention, or because they want to hide their previous identity, so this is a bit like punishing everyone for wanting to change the username.

Why don't you just put some sort notification in the postbit, just below "Join Date".

So you could put something like this:

    Join Date: ***
    Name Changes: 0
    Location: ***
    Posts: ***

Then the actual number could be hyperlinked.

    Best Regards,

Because it would add an additional query for every post displayed (20 extra queries to display a page of 20 posts). Not good. :)

I can't afford a 25$ bill to change my username - pro.seods rocks for me

To me, that would put me off a member, especially if it were in the BST. A strikethrough suggest some form of punishment or disassociation

That has since been changed. Users who have had a recent username change will be shown in Italics as opposed to the strike-though ;)

Shawn what do you think of this? How about at least decreasing the italics period?

I would have liked it to be 30 days instead of 90... the problem is if someone changed their username, then after 45 days paid for a username change again, they would never be able to actually use the 2nd change they paid for because their account is tagged as being eligible for a username change by the same mechanism that makes the username italic. If their username stayed tagged as eligible for 30 days and they bought it after 45 days of their previous one, they would loose their eligibility to change it before the system actually allowed them to because at 75 days they would loose their eligibility tag (the same thing that makes the username italic).

If they are eligible to change it, the system checks when they last checked it when they try to change it.

That's the long winded reason. :)

Personally, the italics look sleek. But, you're probably over-analyzing the value of the change. People will be drawn to the avatar, the name, and hopefully and more importantly, the value of the thread/post.

I was going to change my username, but with the same spelling. I just want people to pronounce it differently.
*please note that this is a smartass remark not intended for international viewers unaccustomed to English witticisms.

man.. I just read this for the third time and still not sure what you mean, but my brain hurts now. What's the short version? If the only problem is with making two changes within 90 days, then I think this would be very rare and you can simply put a note somewhere that says this won't work twice within a 90 days period :)

The short version is no, the italic time can't be lowered. :)

I have been thinking of capitalizing the 'T' and 'N' in my user name is that possible? Or would you have to enter a Totally different user name when purchasing a Username change? Also would this effect my Premium membership at all?
