Ok everyone have heard of scams like: Some1 is selling something on Backpage, Craigslist or iOffer and gets an email saying something like... i really like everything about the item that u are selling and wanna buy it right the way, but ohhhh s***t i'm disabled and can't get out of the house. And all of that followed by something like, i'll pay u over the paypal and will cover all the shipping costs ect. So my question is how exactly does it work (the scam) and can i just agree to his/her terms and take the pmnt but thn just transfer money out of the paypall acct and teach them a lesson. Duplicity so to say lol.
I am no scam expert, but the only way I see this working in their favor is if they send a bogus Paypal Payment notification email. The victim, thinks the email is real and clicks on the link provided by the bogus email. Of course the link would open a bogus Paypal page where the victim logs on and hands the crook their paypal credentials. I don't see how it would benefit the crook to send you legit $ through Paypal.
I think the scaminess can come in when they offer to pay for shipping, but transfer too much money - and ask for you to return the extra in cash. The scam is that they are using a hacked or fraudulent account to send you the money son any cash you return to them is pure profit on their end and a loss for you. Usually, though, this involves money orders or wiring money. I haven't heard it happening with PayPal. I have heard of the fake Paypal Payment notification email, though. If you Google it, you can read a bunch of examples: http://www.google.com/search?q=paypal+fake+notification You can read Craigslist scam-avoidance suggestions here: http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams And here's the Wikipedia article on Advance Fee Fraud http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_fraud
I think he won't do that much work to scam you, what i think he will do is like he will send you payment through paypal and after that he will charge you saying that he didn't receive the item and PayPal will refund his money back. This is the easy way to scam some one and is in most practice these days. Beware.
You need that at a minimum. You should read through PayPal's requirements for seller protection for more suggestions: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/Marketing/securitycenter/sell/SellerProtection-outside
I already no that this abscam for sure. He already asked me send it to "who knows where addrss". The main thing that I'm interested in right now is the details of how this scam works... And would be able to charge back if I withdraw funds right the way...
The reason you stay away from PayPal is because you're ignorant about the situation. I've been using PayPal for four years and I haven't had any incident where I've been placed in this type of situation. I have had claims open against me but PayPal usually will favor my side if it's a legit story. Yugo,
