I spent pretty much all of last week submitting my 4 sites to as many directories as I could find. So far am showing no back-links from any. How long on average before they should start showing up and is this still a worthwhile exercise. Albert
Hello Albert, welcome to the forums See, directories do "work" and that why people still submit to them...Good directories can not only improve your site's ranking but also can they give you a quality backlink and some traffic too! Now, you said you've submitted to a few directories past week. My guess is most of those directories are free directories otherwise your sites would have already been approved or...rejected. Most free directories are spam-hubs...I am saying most cuz there are exceptions. It's very difficult to run a maintain directory that is both good and free because when the owner gets 1000 submissions every two days...you can only imagine how frustrating it could be for him to review all submissions one by one: make the required modifications in title and/ or descriptions, visit all those sites, make sure that the sites being approved actually adhere to the directory guidelines. Result? 1) Most of those sites get "bulk-approved" without any review whatsoever...or 2) Most get "bulk-rejected" without review (including good sites) or 3) The sites take many days to get "viewed", let alone getting "re-viewed"(...) Would you like for your site to be found alongside the type of listings attached below? View attachment 30139 This is called bad neighborhood! And having a link from a directory that lists such sites would not worth it...So, before you consider directory submission, have a look at the sites already included in the directory, do some searches and you'll have an idea of whether or not there is any editorial review behind those listings... I have nothing against free directories and there's a countable few that are good. But most good directories that are worth submitting are paid. Goodluck to you!
if you look for backlinks from link:yoursite in google you will have to wait months and probably, even counted, those links will not be available for public, you will see them only on webmaster tools. And let me say that spending your last week for submitting 4 sites is a waste of time if a) you make money from those sites in which case you are better outsourcing or b) you live in the uk (or usa) where minimum wage per hour is much higher than how much it would cost you to outsource the same activity.
just wait for the approving may b it will take some time,e.g if u submit to 1000 dirs then the chances are that may b 200 of them approve u , or round about that. dont depend on free dirs much
