Hello friends, this would be asked many of a times. My site has been in shared hosting earlier, We have been ranking good, suddenly we saw a drop from page 2 to page 50. What could be the reasons ? Is it someone in the shared server has done BLACK-HAT SEO ? Or the Shared IP is black-listed? Having Dedicated IP is helpful ?
I doubt it is your hosting that caused the drop. How long have your rankings been up high? How long have you been doing SEO? The rankings fluctuate wildly if your site doesn't have a long history of SEO. It also depends on your competition. If you are in a competitive field, your rankings can go up and down like this. You can try having a dedicated IP address. If you are hosting with a reputable host, the IP shouldn't be a problem. Keep in mind that when your rankings go up and down, it is not due to just one factor. It is ofen a combination of SEO factors.
I agree… The drop in search engine position that you have experienced, was most likely caused by other factors. I personally do use dedicated IP addresses for all of my most important websites. From the results that I have received at search engines, I definitely say that it makes a difference for my websites. Keep in mind: If your website is not optimized internally properly and/or if you do not properly build back link, a dedicated IP address will not make much of a difference for SEO.
Website is 3 years old. Been SEO for around 1 year. Ranking has been for over 4-5 months to page 3-4. And suddenly in October it went to page 50.. Is it the Shared IP has been Blacklisted.. Well i checked the IP, it is blacklisted.. so is this a reason? Or its something else?
Ok, you're actually stating that the IP is blacklisted..then yes that it is the culprit. You should switch IP's with your hosting company. You don't necessarily need a dedicated IP but if since you know it's blacklisted you simply need one that isn't.
I have changed the hosting company. and opted for VPS Server.. and Dedicated IP. Hope this change would help ? What do you SEO experts think ?
You can check your IP address on shared hosting... if there's spam/garbage sites on your IP then it could spill over and effect your domain also. If your website is worth anything then go for dedicated. Faster page load times also...
IMO, Google does not do any filtering based on IP's (this is due to the fact that many sites are hosted on shared hosting and Google understands that IP's are shared in these cases). Instead, all of Google's search engine filtering is handled on a domain-by-domain basis. As such, if there is a "bad" site (in regards to Google's database) on the same IP as you, this should NOT affect your search results.
I guess the shares IP will convey the message that u may have the intention to manipulate SEs, so I guess it may have a negative effect on SEO!
So you suggest having a private VPS, is better? I am very shocked how my ranking fell down after 4-5 months ranking were showing good and well at the top And suddenly they fell to like around 40-45th page. Before it was on 3rd page. What is the reason ?? Something is happening with google in backend or what?
This is very true. If you were on the 3rd page for your targeted keywords, that probably means that your SEO efforts were surviving on a shoe string. You most likely didn't have a very strong hold on your placement. Even a small change in Google's algo could drop you down quite a bit if you didn't have a stronghold on your keyword.
