Ok the title was just made to pull you into this thread Anyways I bought this Acoustic guitar. And now I need some guidance from people who are learning it or probably know how to play it. I am a newbie. Don't know almost nothing about guitars. Am planning to join classes and before I go sign up for one, I wanted to ask you guys about stuffs that I need to have in mind about learning it
I've been playing for 27 years actually. The first thing you'll want to learn is what's called a "bar chord". It's a very simplistic chord that most all music is generally based off of. Do a Google search for "how to play a bar chord" and then I would also search it in Youtube. You should quickly be shown how to position your fingers to do a bar chord. You will then move your fingers up and down the fretboard of the guitar using this same positioning of your fingers. Once you can do this you will be able to play a number of popular songs. What style of music are you looking to learn to play?
Thanks Ducati I am planning to start off with slow one's like "Eagles - Hotel California" kind of.. But ultimately I want to use it on my own composed songs. Which are mostly hip hop based..
nice guitar its something i got into but then left and have now recently got properly back into it. look up youtube and google for tutorials on chords first then move to the more complicated chords and so on.
I would say don't waste money on guitar lessons, the internets your best resource. I would say go on 911tabs.com and learn how to read tabs (The numbers represent the frets on the guitar, and the lines represent the strings (simple really)), then slowly pull yourself in to be able to read notes. Also just listen to some songs and try to copy them, as well as making your own up. Good luck and don't give up.
No problem mate, I enjoy teaching people to learn to play so it's my pleasure. Like I said, I would start out by learning a basic bar chord and confirm that you really enjoy playing. (you'll be able to play the majority of rock music) After that, I would get into the more technical side of learning to read tabs etc. I agree that there is a wealth of information online nowadays, so there's really no need to pay for guitar lessons at this point. Report back with how it goes learning bar chords if you would. Good luck
Learn basic chords first, then learn how to read tabs, and then go to ultimate-guitar.com for free tabs and chord sheets and you will be able to make beautiful music ;D

hmm i wish i could get time from my busy shedule so that i can learn and play on chord with guitar but bad luck... hmm i like the chords played in the song "Jal Sajni",album- boondh of Jal,mind blowing.... regards ~ Hemp
Besides learning chords. You should learn notes, also known as reading music. You can' t learn proper English unless you learn the alphabet alphabet first, the same thing goes for music. There are a lot of people that know how to play guitar (mostly by reading tabs of the internet) but not one of them can jam in a group/band unless they got a "music ear" or know how to read music.
hahaha...this was same question wen I bought one fo rme...same as yours...now, the scene is that i learnt some chords alrite, but due to no practice, now i cant even play the basic ones.....lolllllllllllllllllllll........practice is a must..remember this... All the best.......
I agree, but will say that I played in a band for a number of years before I ever learned to read music. I usually recommend when someone first gets a guitar (and isn't really sure whether it's something they are even going to enjoy) to learn a basic bar chord and start playing with that as a foundation. Many times when someone starts right out with learning the technical aspects of reading music they can get frustrated and find that they arent enjoying it. When I've taught people in the past and got them excited about the guitar by showing them how easy they can play some of their favorite songs with a bar chord, they tend to be a lot more excited about learning to read tabs and the technical side of things.
