Really? I'd have to disagree. I did not know the first thing about this business when I got started and that was almost 13 years ago.

Taking the "first step" is how people get there.

It's not as easy as you think. If I had the mindset like you, I would be hoping to start my own airline business. :p

No one said it was easy. What's being said is that it is not impossible. I cannot see discouraging someone from starting a business they know nothing about. That's how most businesses are born. You learn along the way, or you hire people who do know.

Well, most times you don't ask for instructions on forums when it's down to serious business. You take courses, go to conferences etc..

Really? Wow.. what use then is a webmaster forum? When I started this business there were no courses, and were no conferences. We kinda created all that as we went along. All we had was usenet and mailing lists or BBS.

I'm agree that the optigold ISP is the best billing solution because we know that the Optigold ISP is a relational ISP business software application designed to help you create, manage, and share information. With it, you can run an entire ISP business on a Macintosh. Optigold ISP is equipped with invoicing and billing capabilities, as well as virtual checks

And we had to walk five miles with our data packs through the lava and the snow. Butt naked! Eating nothing but dirt clods. :)

I started out on a Wildcat BBS server with a pair of dial ups in and one out. Lots of fun.

Would I do it today? Nope.

He would need a datacentre and some wires + electricity. Note softwares and license are involved ;) Expect a big bill mate.

With so many of big players in the isp business I would venture into a different category. It would cast you a fortune to have a service to compete with them. You'll wind up being just a sub to some one. Just my take on it of course.

Since starting an ISP is a serious matter, I doubt forums are the right place to discuss about it. There are laws and regulations to be observed assuming that the money is already in the pocket.

Correct. You would need a few million to start this sort of business along with a team of business men who know what there doing and they will cost a few thousand itself. DP isn't the place to post this sort of stuff, i wouldn't think any forum would be.

this is for his info only. he would like to know how to start didn't mean he would start after seeing some suggestion. Because every bussiness we want to start, we need to know what we need, budget, experience, etc.. today he's asking you how to operate an ISP bussiness. Maybe 5-10 years later after he save alot of cash and information he needed to start this bussiness, he will became one of the most successful in the field

First, there are several resources to take advantage of. Typically before launching a new business you should "sleep" on it for several months while you review your plans with family, friends, experts. Unfortunatley the Internet moves way to fast. You have to act extremely quickly.
