why does google adsenes ask for Tax info

Hello, I live in USA,CA and I am a 16 year old boy, I began using google adsene under my 24 year old brothers name. After making about $60.00 I noticed they asked for my(Brothers) SSN for tax/Irs related issues. I'm a little scared to provide that information, My question is Will it place any effect on my brother? Any why do they need the SSN? Is there any way I can bypass it?

    Thank you :D

You won't get paid until you provide a SSN number. More info here

As a employer they are required to report the earnings information to IRS. That's why they need to get the SSN from the publisher who is your brother officially. And your brother will need to report the Tax Return next year for AdSense income. I mean if his total income amount is over the minimum to report Tax Return. If he has no income other than few hundred dollars from AdSense, I don't think he needs to report the Tax.

Most programs report earnings to the irs if you make $600 per more a year. So if you do most likely it will be reported to the irs. Uncle Sam always want's his cut. If you don't provide the info doubtful that you would get paid from google.

There is no problem in giving tax details to google as all of us do that.

I don't even think you should be using his Alias because it's not you, and you could get in a lot of trouble. You could have used it under your name.

It is better to play things straight in life. Using your brother's info is the wrong thing to do. He is liable for the taxes owed. I think you can get around the age requirement by getting a business license. Somebody else on this forum should be able to confirm this or try searching the forum.

I am not 100% sure on this, but with a business account you provide a U.S. tax I.D. instead of a social security number.

    It's an old page but...
This gets around the social security number. Do some more research because it's your best bet.

haha!! you are really creepy :p don't worry you or your bro won't get in to trouble. keep developing your sites and by the time you reach to 18 your sites must be earning more and apply for an adsense account with yours then. Till then have fun building your site or forums.. good luck.

I understand that people don't like to read terms and conditions because often times they are extremely lengthy. But the terms are written up for a reason and contain very important and crucial information being that it is legal agreement between the end-user (you) and the company. It would be in your best interest to start reading them. Being that you used your brother's name, if he agrees that you can use his SSN, then the IRS will expect him to file taxes and pay taxes on any earnings made. Any taxes not paid will effect him and IRS can put him in jail for non-payment of taxes. All the best to you. :)
