Isn't SER based on link popularity just like page rank?

Sorry if this sounds offensive but I see that you have 2,000 back links for your webmasters forum but your page rank is 0.

I'm not trying to bad talk I just wonder why that is.. I hear people talking if you have 2,000 back links your rank would be very good.

As PR is one of 200+ factors that Google considers while ranking a site in SERPs, that is why, PR is not totally useless. I think PR has its importance but we cannot just focus our attention on PR.

What we should do is to, concentrate on providing excellent content. This will help to attract natural backlinks. And backlinks will help a site to rank good in SERPs plus they will help to increase the PR.

So focusing just on the quality of content can solve all over problems :)

Yes I can. Actual PR is important. This is what we cannot see and is only known to Google.

The PR you see in your toolbar is not the actual PR that Google sees on their end. It is only updated every few months, so while it has some importance it is certainly not the most important aspect of a website.

If you own a PR6 website that converts at a rate of .7% and I own a PR2 website of the same niche that converts at a rate of 4.7% then what is Pagerank doing for you? In fact, most sites listed #1 are typically lower in PR than those below it.

PR is important in backlinking however. A backlink from a high PR revelant website to a lower PR site can benefit the lower site tremendously, but once your site begins to climb in rankings it's about your structure and content.

I understand where you are coming from, thank you for your response. I'm not talking about a google toolbar, unless it is the same as page rank checkers found through search engines.

I believe that high PR is important and obligatory if you are in a competitive niche .. or even in non competitive niches .. if you are targetting The top 5 then you have to give attention to the PR among other factors ..

Always referring to the ranking factors by seomoz ..

The important of PR and ALEXA is based on your nich/site/network. Certain networks may not be effected by a high PR, while others do.

It is unfortunate, but to this day users look at PR and Alexa to see how popular a site may be. The information may not be accurate, however until something better comes along, thats the measurement they use.

Also, if advertising is a source of overall income for your site, then PR becomes important, alexa becomes important.

Does it effect SERP? Impact is there, however not as significant as other factors. As mentioned, many times the top position is maintained by sites with lower PR
