I want to register .us domain. Is it worse than .com and .net? Does Google give it less attention/wight to .us? Is .us like .info?
It's more difficult to do SEO on an .info domain, and most of your visitors probably won't be able to remember that the domain is a .INFO, and not a .COM, and they'll most likely be redirected to another website since you probably would have registered a .COM if it was available. Yugo,
A good point that I thought of after reading this. It would be more difficult to do link building with a .info vs a .com because most website owners automatically think spam when they see .info and are less likely to link to your site. So in fact a .info would be more difficult to rank in Google vs a .com
That's a common misconception with .info which has no truth to it. It's all about the site. If you develop a good informational site on a .info extension you will have no problem obtaining good links.
Sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree. If the site on a .info TLD is informational in nature (ie: the TLD is being used for its intended purpose) and the site owner is having trouble getting people to link to it, then the site owner either isn't networking properly or isn't communicating properly when writing a proper link request email.
But, you have to agree that it can be more difficult. Not saying its a huge amount but there has to be some difference. Great content or not, when some webmasters see a .info they wont even give it a proper look. Or maybe I am just speaking for myself.
The difference is that .com/.net/.org get exact match benefits and .info doesn't, but you are speaking for yourself when you say website owners will not link to .info sites. If you have a good site people will link to you. You are thinking too much like a webmaster.
WEll, one benefit is that .info names are cheap and great for redirects tof affiliate links ;-) The problem though is that if you keep them after the first year, that benefit goes away...
Domain extensions don't have real SEO benefits. Google doesn't favor any specific extensions. Having said that, .us and .info extensions have similar weight. It boils down to quality linkbuilding.
its all about the name or what you do with it if your getting a name for resale i suggest .info over .us being its required you to be from the U.S. to register/own a .us domain name! i honestly love .info just hate the market for em and the value seen in them by others I honestly think .info should be the standard ext for any information / resource site Tho I do like .us for the domain hackability like LadiesLove.us id prefer .info for most names other than hacks the above domain would not sound nearly as good in .info
.us is better cause it's two less letters and is a country code TLD. .info domains are harder to work with cause the amount used as proxies, and not so nice information.
.us is clearly better than .info Reasons: 1. .info are what affiliate marketers use as gateways for cpa offers and almost never registered over long periods of time. They also hold little weight in the SERP's and are very difficult to achieve top rankings for good keywords (believe me I know). Hence the cheap cost of registering. 2. .us is country code extension and have attracted foreign companies with U.S based interests such as volvocars.us (Volvo), hitachi.us (Hitachi), ikea.us (IKEA), viva.us (Viva Technology), and language.us and languages.us (Dialogue Language School ) 3. .us domains are very easy to brand as mnemonics; got.us and del.icio.us notably
I am not sure of which is the best among the 2 domain extensions.. but .com has a greater impact in Google since that one of the common extension being used.
Domain extension has zero impact on your rank in the search engines. Anyone that says otherwise has no idea what they're talking about. Yes it's true that many people are using the .info for spam purposes, and the .com is the most popular extension. However, if you build your site well, have good site architecture, relevant content, and you build it so that the user has a good experience, then you'll have no trouble in the SERPs. When it comes to link building, get quality links, build a relationship with the people that you want to get a link from so they know you aren't a spam site. Also, be sure to plug your domain name as much as you can so that the "non-traditional" extension has a better chance of sticking with the user.
It make's a small difference, anyway you should think about working, the key word make's the difference. That is your interest and Google's as well.
