Shawn, what was the reason for only two links per (regular) member signature? I had a few tutorials that are published here on the forum that were removed because of the new limit. I'm not complaining (my sig even tells people to now use the forum search to find my tutorials and other useful content), just wondering.

It was something that was being tossed around for awhile (lowering the number or just making them nofollow, hide them from search engines, etc.) Less spam is good imo.

I hear you with the spam issue. Have you guys thought about leaving the limit at four (or changing the limit to three) but hiding the non-premium members' signatures from the search engines or just rel="nofollow"-ing them? Or does the script you're using not support that?

I'm just curious is all. (And if I may make a suggestion, an email or PM announcement of new rules changes, features and promotions would be great, especially since not everybody frequents this part of the forums.)

That was an idea as well (nofollow/hide from search engines for non-premium users), but then it's kinda like we are selling links, and when I'm talking about spam, I'm talking about visual spam for real users using the forum more than anything, so...

As far as announcements and stuff, I suspect people will notice when they see highlighted threads in Buy/Sell/Trade, etc. Premium membership isn't something I want to try to talk someone into wanting. I'll offer it, and if people don't want it, it's not good enough yet and means there is more work to be done on our end to give it more value. :)

Good point about the appearance of selling the links (even though you really wouldn't, but that's beside the point). About the email announcement idea though, people won't notice unless you tell them. Plus you'll also quickly discover which email accounts are dead (among other things).

Hmm... perhaps a newsletter or something similar to what other sites send out would work. You could not only feature and highlight the best recent threads on the forum, as well as new promotions, offers, and features, but also sell some advertising space on there as well. Just a thought. :)

We'll probably send out some sort of newsletter regarding the tools in a few weeks. Probably will add a blurb about the forum in there, but generally I don't like to spam people. :)

If you want to link to the internal threads of DP, you can try this. This will allow you to have more that two links in sig. See my Sig for example.

    [*Thread=348778*]Automated blogs. Approx $1 each[*/thread*] (remove all *)

Replace thread number with your thread number and change anchor text.

    This is working for now.
Am not sure about future. :D:D

P.S. Shawn, don't blast me for posting this. :p

    Lol, that figures...

What happens to sold signature links?

Another way of getting members to signup premium membership, it might be worth remembering that active members helped build this forum.

    Thanks Brian

You can become premium by paying $25
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/payments.php

I suggest there be some Mass Pm announcing that there's a new feature or a forum wide announcement.

What about those who made donations, we just get fucked and have to make another payment just to keep 4 sig links?

Those who made donations should be considered premium members imo, you wouldn't be having to do this if every member donated to begin with.

More to the point, how is reducing the number of sig links reducing spam? Whether it's 2 links or 4 links you will always get spammers on a forum, it's just one of those things you have to deal with.

It feels like every new change which occurs on dp now is to make more money. If you want to become a paid members forum just do it, but don't feed us this bullshit.

    //end rant

This is something new, I didn't think the current limit will be changed. I get that premium members get more benefits but old members should be able to keep their sig limit at least.

How is someone who donated in the past getting fucked? No benefit of donating members was removed from them. Donations had no affect whatsoever on signatures. And yes, we will always get spammers and we do deal with them (this is just one of the many ways we *are* dealing with them).

I suppose you could argue that low post count members are that donated got fucked when we changed the minimum time between sending PMs to 5 minutes as well because it *was* a change after they donated (although didn't have anything to do with donating).

Ummm, I think you are missing the point. We donated to the forum expecting that you wouldn't become a sellout. I guess it was wrong to assume you would always have the members best interests in mind.
