Did you attend private school or send your kids to one? I thought that my public education was all around quite good. I wonder how much better it would have been in a private school.
Private school is better than public school any day of the week. Though I don't have any children( and may never have them) I would either home school them or send them to private school. Trust me, public schools in the US are a joke. A lot of the kids graduate a lot dumber than they were when they started. Most rich people here in the US send their kids to private schools, and there is a reason for that.....
Public schools in china are a joke.. they make public schools in the states look pretty damn good. Teaching quality and style here is total shit.. they still use traditional chinese education systems (mostly). And though i dont have kids.. if i was living here i sure as hell would send them to a private school. In the states I might let them go to public schools. My own highschool was incredibly good and i learned a lot of the skills im using now there, including: marketing, programming, website design, accounting and speaking (use that more if im teaching). I guess if i was rich i would likely send my kids to a private school, though i honestly dont think it would have improved my own life to go to a private school.
And lots of those rich people oppose vouchers to allow kids to get out of public and go to private schools too.
Public Schools in Australia Melbourne are ok, we get a few bright ones from Public schools, But i would personally send my kids to Private, as they'll get involved in a lot more activities and learn different things. However i think it depends on the child, if they are smart, it doesnt matter what school you send them to, they'll find all their home work from public or private schools too easy and will end up learning everything by themselves anyway.
i also think private school is better for obvious reasons. since everything is paid, the 'service' you get is better... e.g. obvious reasons like better facilities, smaller classes (i.e. teacher/student ratio), better crowd (i.e. better students)... however, i don't suggest you send your kid to private school if you cannot afford it or can only barely afford it. there are many other things to consider - e.g. peer-pressure... what if their friends get a car for their birthdays and you can only afford to buy your kid a ps2 for his birthday?
In some areas of the country private schools are definitely better. But in other areas the public schools are great. You need to consider many factors when rating a school. So many, that it really needs to be done on a per school basis.
exactly.. in my city my. The others came no where close.. mine had about 3 times as many extra curricular activities, and it competed well nationally for most all of these activities. Seems like we even won a grammy or something. So look where you live at all the different schools and determine which would be the best environment. For example in my city the private schools werent a good bet if you wanted to compete in sports, they just didnt have enough people to put together a 4a team.
Totally agree with you. In the area I live we have Great public schools. No need for me to send my son to a private school! Wish I would have taken advantage of what I had..
U also get a chance to know some really smart or rich people who you can sponge off in the future, or alternatively make friends with in private schools
I've been in public school education for going on 28 years now and I don't think it matters if it's public or private. What I think does matter is: Does the school have highly motivated educators Does the school have highly motivated administrators Does the school have highly motivated coaches and staff Are the parents involved in their childs education How are they implementing their technology Are they utilizing their educational resources (money) wisely Does the school have a code of conduct and enforce it Does the school have open communication with the public Ed
I have always been educated through public schools, and I know I didn't turn out "dumber" than I was when I started. As a matter of fact, I believe I obtained a very good education. I wouldn't have wanted to go to private school, had my parents been able to afford it -- the public schools I attended were comparable to any education I might have received at an expensive private school.
I went to public schools but I'm sending mine to private. Social Connections She'll have better chances at meeting and hanging with kids who are raised well, ambitious, and just have that general high achiever attitude. The friends she makes in her years of private school can potentially be powerful connections in her adulthood. Heck they don't even need to be friends. Alumni of ivey league schools prove every day that just being the alumni of a certain school opens doors for you. Teacher to student ratio Nuff said. Less distractions At private schools everyone wears the same uniform and for good reason. Kids spend less time worrying about who has the latest clothes and more time focusing on who has better grades and is going to the best college. They can worry about their clothes when they are out of school when that sort of thing might be more appropriate. Lastly it shows my kids just how serious I am about their education and why they should be too. I'm not saying these are all the best reasons to go private they are just my personal reasons. Both mine (well my 5 year old will be at kinter soon) are very bright kids and they deserve all the opportunity I can provide them to excel. It's like stated above it depends on location too. If you live in Beverly Hills it's probably a waste of money sending your kid to private school when I'm sure the public schools in that type of area are top notch.
I agree with all of GeorgeB's points. As well I have enough credits already I can graduate a year early As for connections, I've had dinner with Ted Rogers, met the Eaton family, I know Conrad Black's son and am dating the son of one of the top CEOs in Canada Have also met some powerful journalists and have one as a mentor as well Though I always forget her name...I think it's Evelyn Pringle, not sure about the first name. BWAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! I'd also like to mention I'm not at all snotty
US public schools are a joke. You have 3 types of teachers: 1.) Ones who care but cant accomplish anything because no one else cares. 2.) Ones just there to collect a pay check. 3.) Ones that teach the state / federal guideline minimum only
