I have a doubt. i have an sbi account in my place but we dont have citibank branch in my town.
can i send my check via speed post/registered post to an SBI branch in my near city where there is citibank branch to get the money cleared early ?.(since it takes 3 weeks to get my check cleared)
will the sbi bank manager accept the registered post provided am sending it with pay-in-slip with all the details in it?.
thanks a lot for your valuable comments

all checks will be cleared from US citi branch .
and btw your planned method is not practical

you should open a account in citibank , it will save those three weeks

^^ No mate. the cheques are payable at par at all citibank branches in india. not US. also the time take is the transit time from sbi branch to sbi service branch in my near city where there is citybank branch, from there to citibank in that city. back to sbi branch in my city. etc. if i deposit the cheque in sbi branch where there is citibank branch then it will get cleared in 2 to 3 days. :)

and btw whats the minimum balance/QAB to start a citibank account in india ??
    thanks

You can submit your check to sbi or any bank in india ..no need to open an city bank a/c. Just go and submit it. it just take 1 or 2 days to get cleared.

^^ my check is a citibank check issued by google adsense, which is payable at par at all citibank branches in india.
since there is no citibank in my city. my bank,(SBI) have to send the check to another city branch of SBI where there is citibank branch.
so it takes 3 weeks to get the check cleared.
my question is whether i can send the check via speedpost/registered post to SBI branch in my near city for clearence. even though i have account in SBI in my city. thanks for replying.

I know that the checks are issued from city bank & they have written that payable at par at all citibank branches in india. but the good thing is that you can submit it to any bank branch because the checks are MICR checks so that will be cleared in no time even at your sbi branch in your city. it should take only maximum of 2 days.

I advise you not to take any of those risks, just drop the check in your local bank they will transfer it to the concerned bank in 3 days and get it cleared. Since it is outstation check it might take 3 to 15 days.

I also suggest you to wait for some days after submitting in your local bank .

why don't you go to your nearest city where do you have citibank and just deposit your check in any SBI branch there (Would be much fine if you deposit it into Head Branch of that City) ..i am having the same problem as well when i asked my bank manager he told me that your SBI account is CBS(Core bank Service Account) which you can identify by number of digits of your account (10 digits and more account number comes in category of CBS ) so you can submit your check any where in India and That bank would transfer your fund into your account from there!

well i am not sure about this method but this month i am going to try this one for sure because i can't wait for 15 or 20 days to get cleared my check instead of just go to my nearest city and deposit there .....but if you are talking about send check via speed post/registered post to an SBI branch ..i think it will not work and much risky as well..I hope this will help somehow but first confirm with your SBI manager

    thanks
