Hello everyone I have registered a few .Asia Domains. I think these domains will grow in value for the time to come.. Since the internet is booming in Asia. Like India having 1 Billion people already. Does anybody have some experience with .Asia domains? Unfortunatly I noticed, that most .asia domains registred are just parking sites, instead of a developed websites. This is bad for reputation.. I own: handbag.asia indices.asia egcg.asia betta.asia takraw.asia ... Would you invest in this market? Nick Stone
I personally would not - they simply have not taken off. Also, "Asia" it too broad. It can't even geotarget to a specific area.
Well a good example might be ".eu" Is that domain space working? Some would say yes but it's not without it's problems. Languages and cultures don't mix for most of the European Union and people would rather use their own country code.
I registered some really wonderful .Asia domains before the landrush but I never got any of them since all of them went into auction. One of the domain that I registered went into auction and sold for over $25,000 and I never got it. I was not happy. Because it should be like whoever registered it first should get it. But these land rushes are all about money. They registry makes the money by acutioning them off and whoever pays the highest price wins. That is ridiculous.
what is ridiculous its just business. if you get a premium domain for reg fee are you going to sell that domain to reg fee for some one later or u expect more money ? that answers your question. i know that sucks because we miss premium names but its business and registry knows premium names to auction and make money.
I agree with you 100%. It's a complete scam - everyone should have an equal chance at grabbing a domain, regardless of if you're a poor college kid or a multi billion dollar corporation. It's a total crime to see these domains go into private auction until it's open to the public for a flat fee.
Personally I wouldn't register a .asia domain. It's all about the .com's, .org's, .net's, etc. Not so much with .info, .me, .us, let alone .asia.... so you're better off registering a domain with .com, org, or net.
Asia is too broad of a market for .asia to become popular amongst domainers and business owners. However, it could become handy for asian non-commercial organizations that plan on expanding in different Asian countries. It could be actually a good alternative to .org in the long run for Asian organizations.
Dude the registeries have become greedy now adays. So that is ridiculous because back in the days when people were registering .coms ICANN never held the domains so they can sell it for premium prices. And Everyone had an equal chance and whoever got the Premium Tlds. (.coms or .nets) got to keep it. Now adays all the stinking landrush is about registering and then auctioning it off. Why even bother to let people register? Why don't the registeries register those names for free and then sell them off for a high price. Its like a teasing woman who takes off her clothes but doesn't let you bang her or even touch her. What the heck? And all the domains I registered were Top One words and I mean Best you could find. If I or anyone had all of them in .com in one portfolio then I or anyone who had them would be worth more than a 100-200 million dollars for just 50 domains that I registered with .Asia but I never got them. They were all auctioned off. And even with .Asia if I got to keep all they would be worth more than a Million dollars right now. Because I just recently checked and found out none of them were sold for less than $15,000 and mostly $20,000 plus. And I originally registered them in 2007 when no one had them because there were others that I did try to register but the registery didn't allow me because they were taken. So basically my money was held with the registerar untill they were auctioned off. So I had close to $3000 held with my registerar untill the auctions and then they refunded me for domains as they auctioned off so yes it was basically a loss for me and why? Just because the registry was greedy. That is why it is ridiculous. Put yourself in my shoes and you will feel the same.
No, I wouldn't waste my money on an extention that was already doomed to fail before it even came out. Why would a company want to own a .asia name when they can own the name in their ccTLD? .asia is a useless extention IMO
Because I just recently checked and found out none of them were sold for less than $15,000 and mostly $20,000 plus. [/QUOTE] I meant to say NO less than $15,000 but for some reason they wont let me edit it. Most of them were between $15,000-$20,000.

people buying .asia domains do develop those websites and not just park them. As every good names are long gone when it comes to .com / .net etc. .asia is a alternative. For example: cars.com will be worth big money. but it can be registred only once. meaning for million of car business websites that the best domain name is gone.. So when a huge continent like Asia goes .asia many companies and privat persons can go for their name. However most realy good names went into auction, thats right. For example probably one of my best names: handbag.asia I bought at the auction for over 500$. But still I think it will pay. Since Asia has got billions of women going online in the near future. The big question is: Where will they look for their shoes and handbags online? .com or .asia? We will see. For the present time it definitely is .com But I have a lot of time in contrary to most people.. Nick Stone
Yeh, .asia is even more vast than that. Just compare India, China, Japan and Indonesia. All different cultures and languages! =]
Yes but the dominant internet language still is english. Most asian countries start teach english from a kindergarden level nowadays. So the upcoming generations will surf not only in chinese and on chinese pages but mostly in english and on english websites like: www.handbag.asia So I still think it has a future.
I did not register asia names as they never took off. Just ask one question to yourself Mr. OP, How many .asia sites have you visited in your lifetime?
