Hi everyone, I play sports like Cricket, Football and hockey. I did got hurt and badly injured many times. Once got hit on face with cricket ball. Injured my foot while tackling in football. Got hit on the eye with a hockey stick. But still i love playing. Anyone who got injured or hurt in any sport? Can you share?
true story i wrote on my blog/site about my life....... WWW.NULIFEONLINE.COM Nowadays, I'm 32 years old (in less then two weeks) and I don't play any sports......professionally. But for some strange reason, I keep going out there on some random basketball court and even a damn softball field and play like its for a gold medal or something. Last summer, while playing basketball at a local LA Fitness, I again had my routine of playing ball, and seemingly living out my Larry Bird fantasy....Right up until the point where I banged knees with some guy on my way to the hoop. Of course, I treated it like I was 15 and I sprained my ankle. I put some ice on it and went to bed. Then of course comes 4:30am...on a work day of course (yeah, I'm 32 and my dumb ass is a grownup who has to work for a living). I hobble on over to the nearest hospital like I'm Willis Reid and get checked out because the pain in unbearable.. They of course say its not that bad, and i should just stay off it a few days and check back later. Its now over a year later and knee is not the same. But did that stop me from playing sports.....nooooooo...Darryl Strawberry over here decided to start playing in some co-ed softball league with some friends. Of course, within the first few games, I fall right on my backside making a catch and have a nice scar on my arm to this day. Finally (ok, at least 20 games later) I decide to stop playing....But what do you know, my job (of all places) decides to have a softball game between two different offices. I actually did the sensible thing, which is to not sign up...But sure enough, a friend signed me up anyway, and I ended up playing. Guess who got a great hit for my team batting first? Hey, guess who fell on his shoulder trying to stretch it into a double wearing sneakers instead of cleats? Of course the story doesn't end yet. I go out there for the next two innings and pitch with a messed up left shoulder (which seemed to have popped out and back in like im Freakin Mel Gibson or something) and actually do well. Thank god I finally came out of my gotta try hard and win coma right when I was going to try and bat again. I instead grabbed my crap, waited for the game to end (we won by the way, wonderful) and proceeded to the worker's comp Dr. and got checked out. What a shocker, the Dr. tells me everything looks ok (just like the knee Dr.) and sends me on my way with a follow up date next week to check in. Dont' get me wrong, I feel blessed to have hopefully not had it worse off then it is right now, but my paranoid behind can only think of now having a bum left shoulder to go with my bum left knee. Moral of the story is, if your over 21 and your not getting paid to play a sport professionally, don't play at all !!! You want some exercise, go run on the treadmill (and try not to fall off while staring at some chicks butt)
One of my friends lost part of their vision in one eye from cricket Was either wicket keeping or in slips and somehow the bail of the stumps flicked and hit them hard in the eye The result was permenent problems with vision and a lot of time spent seeing lots of doctors etc. If you play at a certain level where i live and team you are playing for is legit then normally players are covered by some sort of medical insurance if they get hurt and can claim expenses. But i guess lots of people probably are not covered and risk permenent injury or lost income. Very unlucky - normally with cricket injuries it would be the ball, bat or a collision between two people to get injured So guess its not just contact type sports where injuries occur
In my college days i used to play cricket a lot, One day when i was fielding, ball directly hit on my nose, it took almost 3 weeks to recover.
Tough guy.. Loved your spirit mate. Hope you'll remain fit now and no to stretch your shoulder beyond limit while pitching but being a player i know it happens. You tend to give it all when you are into the game. Hmmm.. my friend did had a collision too while catching a ball. Thanksfully he wasn't badly hurt. And Me too not insured.. Well have been hit badly on the jaw while trying to hook the ball. But don't know how i survived.
Well this really hurts. Nails are really very painful. And moreover it takes lots of time to be normal.
ive broke both legs playing football from bad tackles from the other team. broke my arm when i use to be a goalkeeper to, i dnt play nemore.
Well that was bad stuff. and i feel its good that you don't play any more as you need to be fit more than anything else. Take care mate.
I use to play baseball, hit what was easily a triple, pulled my hamstring on my way to 1st base. Almost toppled over..
Well, ya I have also got hurt many times while playing something ! But all of them were minor. - Digital -

Broke my face in 5 places playing softball. Had surgery to fix it and now I have 2 titanium plates in my face.
Well the reminder really hurts and some injuries do remain for lifetime. Sorry about that mate. Thats really bad mate. Can't believe you got such badly hurt. Well i just hope you are fit these days. Do you played softball ever after that accident?
Yeah, I still play. There are a few threads about it around here somewhere, since I was a member here when it happened. I posted some pics of the CT scan of my skull... Edit: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=374022 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=423251
mate those pics are amazing. well you really got a solid head now. can try for some wrestling or boxing.
When I was in school, I got hurt while playing cricket. We were not playing with a leather ball but still the ball hit my finger in such a way that I had swelling for a few days.
For more than 10 years ago I finished my football(soccer) career 'cause of 2 injuries: problems with my neck & knee And from time to time that relapses...
