Anybody care to share where they get their free HQ stock images? I've found a few but they have poor selections. I'd appreciate any suggestions or recommendations.

well for free my favorite is sxc . hu and you can find the images from flickr.

But if you don't have the concern of Royalty free you can use the Getty images also however the image on Getty images are not of High Quality but if it's fine if you are using them for web and if you don't have any problem legally..

I find its worth it to spend the extra few bucks to get the higher resolution photos that you get with paid stock images. It will make your website look more professional, and some of those free stock images can be pretty grainy or may not be large enough so when you blow it up, the image becomes pixelated.

Check out the digital picture forum, it's a good place to look. If you need a certain type picture, sign up there and post a request. Photographers there post all kinds of pictures, from wildlife to scenery, to everything else.

Most photographers take thousands of stock pictures. Most of them do not mind sharing. Sometimes you just have to ask in the right places.

I have taken the images from google images, but I have edit them, merging it. So after editing (like changing color or merging 2 images and make 1 banner) can it create legal issue or is it ok to use like that ?

You can't use google images for business, unless they are copyright free or allowed for this purpose by license;)

I personally use sxc.hu and they are brilliant. Now and again you may find other 'paid-for' stock photography sites may run promotions and offer some of their images for free. So it's a matter of searching to see what you come up with.

Freerangestock.com -- http://www.freerangestock.com. Thousands of images, fits the bill for most everything mentioned. Commercial use, high-res, etc.
