Would it be possible to make a blog around a niche and publish others articles onto the blog with ads and affiliate links and actually make money doing that?

People do this all the time. You can pull in public domain content from article directories and load it up with AdSense. I am unsure what Google's take on the matter is, so proceed with caution. I have a few blogs like this, but do not use AdSense on them, however they do get significant traffic.

Would this be considered an auto blog? I've heard good and bad things about them, yet I've always wanted to give it a shot.

This is acceptable as long as you reference where you got the article from.
However Unique content is better so if you can write your own articles and I'm sure you will do better long term.

Sorry can't answer the autoblog question, I would assume NO but then................

Automating part of it to add related articles from the public domain every day will help keep your blog looking fresh if you don't have time to write frequent articles yourself but in the end if you don't have anything original at all you have to spend more money on advertising than similar blogs to get it noticed.

Yes, many folks use this technique to make money on-line.
If you do it right, and have a number of sites, you can make a lot of money.

    Hi,

Just pay attention to copyrights and don't steal content from other bloggers.
There's also the duplicate content issue i.e. if you're thinking about doing copy and paste, but I guess that this would fall into the copyright issue.
On the other hand, if going to jail you won't have to pay for food (at least directly) and this way you'd be already profiting :)

    Best regards,

    José

    Good point Jose.
If you're using content from a site like ezine for example, be sure to always use the whole article, and keep any existing links etc.

Original content always works best on these kinds of sites. If you're not great at creating your own, why not outsource?

I tried and failed. I uploaded 100 articles of a similar topic to my Blogger, and to date, I've got not one hit from organic rankings. Google may have penalized me for duplicate content.

It's good to hear the success stories though. I'd love to know what I'm doing wrong.

Pull your content from article directories and make sure to leave the persons link at the bottom of the articles and you'll be fine regarding copyriight issues. Because it's dupe content you may have a hard time ranking well though.

I've found dozens of article websites out there with over 100,000 articles on them. Their Alexa rankings are worse than 1 Million. If you post duplicate content, Google will find you and slam you straight to the bottom of the SERPs.
