I wouldn’t recommend anyone going in to the directory business to make a quick buck.

Good web directories are profitable, but gone are the days of quick profits.

Look for something else or take a part time job.

    Thanks Brian

As for as money is concernd u have to spend smthng on the basic stuf,
like domain, hosting, script, etc but the wouldnt cost u bundles of,as u have set up complete and start running a directory then the main thing will be time ,
but u will also require some money for promo stuff,
in the last i would say that just make a try with full efforts and may be u make something after tiMe!!!
as for as studies is concernd , i think u can continue it with u r studies,
but dnt depend on dir for u r economcal stuff....

Expect it to take years for any kind of decent return and then only with diligent effort and a good bit of luck.

Directories need to mature just like a fine wine.

Arshid - It doesn't matter how large your marketing budget is if the product isn't marketable. Even if you had big bucks to invest in marketing, the venues you want are looking for a more polished product. Anyone that does a minimally honest site review will reject it in its present state.

TIME is what your directory needs:
    • time invested with a spellchecker
    • time invested adding content
    • time invested editing out hype and capitalization errors
    • time invested changing descriptions out of first person
    • time invested cleaning up the grammar, sentence structure, and intelligibility of your copy

You are focused on "marketing" when you need to focus on "building" a sound product. You only have 29 posts here and 11 of them were used to start new threads in the directory forum. At least two had to be moved elsewhere. Take a deep breath and read some of the material already available here instead of spamming the forum with questions that have nothing to do with the reason your directory hasn't already replaced Yahoo.

Honestly, you're working in a language besides your native tongue and I couldn't do that... but the market won't miss the mistakes you make as a result, nor forgive them. Has nothing to do with "fair" or "political correctness", it's just a fact.

    Your best bet:
-1- Build a product in a language you are fluent in...
-2- Learn the directory basics before starting a directory.

Doing it right is hard work, and a marketable product must be there before marketing questions are even relevant.
