People just don't seem to buy from a direct link as much. I don't think there's any worry from Google or anything, it's just that pre selling gets better results. Oh, and if you want to set up a landing page while learning html, outside of a blogger blog, you could also try Squidoo, devhub, and weebly among other free website creators.

Okay, so why does pre-selling get better results? People need to be gently coaxed into buying?

On Pete's blog he says he doesn't believe in soft-selling. So how much less aggressive can his landing page be compared to the publisher's landing page? What's the point? I still don't get it. :(

I don't think we should be hijacking this thread.. but

A landing page gives people the option to
.. go to the affiliate page
.. sign up for a newsletter
.. add credibility to the author of the article for having her own website

Each product is going to need it's own type of landing page (every product is different)....

But.. there are some products where the affiliates page pretty much does the job.. (That's what you need to find).

Pete, how long does it take on a average to get the squidoo, hubpages indexed? I've created a squidoo page weeks ago but still don't see it anywhere on google. Do you do anything to get these web 2.0 properties get indexed faster?

@DMK All you need to do is some social bookmarking usually after that it is about 2 days generally.

    Thanks

Pete, could you look at some of these questions? Also, do you ping and bookmark each article more than once or would that be a no no?

Do you find Onlywire is enough though? Some of the services on there don't work and many others are nofollow. So I've never noticed them have any impact on rankings.

@ Madlabs sorry I haven't posted back been spread a bit thin recently anyway to your questions

I only ping and bookmark the articles once but yes I ping and bookmark all the articles I submit even the ones that the title is changed and submitted to the other directories.

I have a minimum search term of about 800 i think anything less does not generate enough traffic.

You need a few accounts with onlywire and I never bookmark from the same account on the same say to the same directory otherwise I don't know. I have been doing it for over 6 months and I have not been banned. I have not seen anything to say that google doesn't like it as I have a lot of No.1 listings on google and they haven't moved for months.

I use 1 main pen name in articlesbase but I have a few others for different types of articles. I use these for split testing different styles. But I use different pen names in the directories I submit to.

I have looked into being a company but in Australia there is no real benefit that I can tell I have asked my accountant about it and there is no real gain unless I am going to hire staff and have a brick and mortar business here. I can only take his advice I suppose.

@ Ashiro I find that onlywire works great as soon as I bookmark the articles digg usually gets on the first page for the terms first. Then articlesbase follows shortly after. I do however use another 5 bookmarking sites that do help as well.

If anyone has anything else let me know.

    Thanks

    Pete

Pete, thanks again for keeping this journal up. Especially with your busy schedule.

It really is a great source of information and learning.

With Onlywire, do you find that some social bookmarking sites are better than others for what you are doing? I know you mentioned digg.

One of the articles that I tried to submit was rejected as spam (cant remember which site rejected it). I assume because it was from an article directory.

Also what's the benefit of using different pen names for different article directories? Is it due to the obvious reason that people may think you're spamming all the directories if you use the same name?

P.S. Articlesbase is a breath of fresh air - Ezinearticles rejected my article twice, they are too picky. AB approved it in one day! My only beef with them is that they use infolinks/kontera style advertising which I'm sure is responsible for a good deal of traffic loss.

Thank you for the reply, Pete! I empathize with you being stretched so thin, you a very in demand guy around here, lol.

I dread getting another onlywire account, as that would mean another account with each of the services...it's a painful process, but if it helps I'll do what must be done.

By the way, I think your Google Trends PDF may work okay after all...it took a few weeks, but now I'm somehow on page 1 of google with most of my blogs and am getting 50 hits a day for some of them(originally I was lucky to get 1 or 2). Although I've made only 17 cents, I'm starting to regret giving up on it when I did.

Are you still gonna update the PDF? I would still like to know what needs to be optimized with this process. :)

Two questions, Pete, very sorry if they've been addressed before, I keep up with the article but it's so massive at this point they may have fallen through the cracks.

One: How do you track sales from individual articles? I noticed that you mentioned that you got a sale from an article you wrote 6 months ago. Or did you just mean it was for a product that you haven't promoted in 6 months?

Two: Congrats on the new product. How do you go about putting one of these together. I've been an affiliate for some time now as I know you have, so I was wondering how you went about making the transition. Do you hook up with someone to do all of the product side stuff and you stick to the marketing and split the profits together or did you have a big hand in creating the product? I guess it's simple enough, just write a ton of helpful pages on a topic, make an ebook out of it, then contact clickbank...but it seems so much more involved and consuming than that.

I just saw your other post about your product launch. Do you maybe look at other decent selling guides, add what they're missing, rearrange, and rebrand?

    thanks for the replies man.

@rbf738 As you know all my articles get pointed to a landing page and I have statcounter setup on that landing page. So when I get a sale i just marry up the time of the sale with the article, I make sure that it is the same state and country it came from. It is a bit clunky but it works for me and lets me know which articles are selling and which don't.

With regards to the product. It took me about 2 weeks to find the one that I wanted to start with, I put a lot of research into which one I thought would do best. I had it narrowed down to 3 possibilites before I opted with the dandruff product. Once you have chosen your market the rest will follow. Once you have your product you have a few options you can either partner with someone and split the profits or you can outsource some of the work and you do the rest.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks

    Pete

Hi Pete, great thread, and all the best for the new venture.

I would like to know if you write an original for EZA, and then submit it to hubpages, sqiudoo, goarticles etc with slight change in title would you count them as fore articles or just 1 article and 3 back links ?

I mean you mentioned earlier that you have written hundreds of articles so while counting total no of articles submitted, do you include these back links as articles or you keep them out of count?

The reason for this quest is that i find it quite hard to consistently churn out 30-35 articles per day, unless i do nothing else.

@smellyfinger I count the other article directories as backlinks not articles. The total article count is only for the main directory.

    Thanks

    Thanks Pete.

It was a a lot of good info. I read about 10 pages from start to begining and I learnt quite a bit. Congrats on such good numbers and basically free advertising. I know you can touch the goal before the year is over. This has given me some ideas as well and I will go start working on them.

Now take this thread, edit it here and there, and then turn it into an e-book to sell. :D

Cool, I just started a new page.

    I feel so proud.

Wow 100,000 views I never expected anything like this when I started this thread all those months ago. It was jus really meant to be a journal to keep me on track and to keep me focussed. I feel all humble now. I am glad though that there is a lot of people taking a lot from this thread. I suppose it is kinda like paying you all back for all your support over the months.

If I can just take this opportunity to thank you all for all the emails and pms of support it has kept m going when the times were hard.

Hopefully we can finish the last couple of months of this journal on a high. I am going to have to start thinking about what to do once this journal ends. Give something more back to the communtiy. Still got a couple of months to think about it though.

    Thanks again

    Pete
