Is downloading from youtube illegal? I am planning to download a few videos form youtube using youtubedownloader. I just wanted to store it in my pc and watch it. No ideas of posting it again on internet or public exhibition.
even if i say its illegal, you will go for downloading.. tell me who is not downloading from youtube nowdays?? Buy the way its not legal.. I red Youtube TOS
I don't know why YT doesn't just have a "download" button on their site, everyone uses 3rd party sites to do it anyway...
Youtube TOS allows you to use any functionality of the site. Therefore, videos with a download button are fair game, however those needing use of an outside program are forbidden to download. In reality, there is not much risk in what your doing despite the technical illegality.
The problem with this type of case is that YouTube themselves have been in a legal battle recently as to whether their site is even legal because it shows music videos for free so record companies are losing out with the wide range of technology available nowadays. I know people who rather than buy an iPod just listen to youtube via their phone, you get a much larger selection of songs and don't have to slap yourself round the face after trying to use iTunes!!!
Its sometime very irritating when you need some video and its found in only you tube, without a download button. You have to tolerate that silly buffering all the time you want to watch the song. Those having a slow internet connection just can't watch it in one go.
It is illegal but as long as you download and use it for your own use, i dont think there is going to be any problem...
Why would anyone take legal advice from you when you have no idea what you are talking about? Your user name on DP along with your domain are clear trademark violations. Anyone who listens to any advice from you in the legal section is a fool.
No, you're using it for personal use, not commercial use. You'll be fine. You can download the videos, as long as you don't upload them or use them for anything but personal use. That definitely gave me some hope in this forum, it's great to see some sane, intelligent people.
I don't see where it's a problem for personal use, or that anyone will care..the videos are readily available for free public consumption anyway and are not for sale.
Actually no it doesn't. The couple times they've gone after sites, that's the excuse they've used. Reference: http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/02/13/youtube-kills-our-video-download-tool/ Do I think they're going to go after individual users? Doubt it. They'll go after sites and software that allow it if anything.
Technically, once you have loaded the entire video your browser has downloaded it already in it's cache. You can go right into the cache and see it there. I don't know the legality of it all, but there are plug-ins that directly advertise their ability to download from Youtube. If you want the music or the video then YT is not great quality.
Yes, YouTube clearly says in TOS that downloading isn`t allowed. They penalize all these YouTube download sites if they don`t shut down. BTW there are many programs that can be used to download from youtube to your hard drive but it is against their TOS.
That's not totally true either. There are hundreds of them out there and only a few have been shut down. The only one that comes to mind right off is Techcrunch and they probably got shutdown as they have a very large reader base. Probably maxed out Youtube's servers. They go after these sites by changing the code as often as three times a week with complete rewrites of the code every so often. Many of the top listed download sites and the many that I see around here in sigs and for sale are very much broken.
