So obviously you understand just how much work would have to go into fixing that. Surely i should not be expected to pay for something i would end up rewriting 70% of anyway?

Oh well, the matter is over now anyway.

did you specify this? from my experience, MOST web developers are quite low on initiative and rely on instruction to do what others will simply take into consideration without being asked. i'm really big on communication, and briefing, because i know i wont get what i want unless i ask. in detail.

I was under the impression this was standard practice :S I do this regardless of whether the client points it out or not. Also, if web friendly fonts are used on buttons or banners i will always export the image as a background and the text as HTML.

Maybe there was just a lot of miscommunication, i automatically expected him to know what i envisioned with the PSD as during the initial briefing he seemed to understand where i was coming from with all the points i made.

I have gained one thing from this though... i am starting to reconsider how much i charge for my services, as i am beginning to realise just how good my code is in comparrison to some simirlarly priced programmers. Not that there's many on DP that would appreciate anything beyond how much the service costs.

yes - you're expecting too much. i'm suprised you haven't noticed the amount of crummy designers there are out there. just look at 90% of design agencies and individual portfolios, and VERY FEW of them validatea nd use semantic code. they provide even poorer services to their clients. seriously do some scouting about and you'll see that most "professionals" are in actual fact, far from it.
