Bon.no — A new URL Shortener — Feedback pls!

    Howdy! :)

    I've made a new URL shortener, called Bon.no. I know I have a lot of competitors, but it's funny trying anyway. The concept is just that it's very simple and fast. The URL is very short too, and I have made a clean but good looking design, I hope. :) It's easy to share on Twitter, Facebook, etc. or just copy the link.

    What do you think about it? Pls give me som feedback for Bon.no

    I can't decide whether I like the design or not. There's nothing wrong with the layout, maybe it's just the green and grey don't mix well together. Also you should consider blending the ads into the template, as at the moment it sticks out like a sore thumb. As for the actual URL shortener, I like it a lot. The form is clear, accessible and loads processes the short URL very quickly.

    You should probably reconsider using Myriad Pro as the main font in the <h2> . I know you've got it backed up, although it looks crispy on your website - which then makes it look a little tacky. Finally, an IP checker on a short URL site? Sites like URL Shorteners and proxies should be dedicated to one thing. If you want an IP checker, I'd make an entirely new site for it and perhaps link to it at the bottom of your site.

    URL shortener and IP checker, two completely different tools that don't belong on the same site. :p

    Overall, 7/10 :)

    Thx for great feedback, Mhw! :)

    I'm agree according to the design. I shall reconsider using Myriad Pro, it can look a bit crispy without Clear Type activated. Now i have tried Trebuchet MS in the h2 as well, what do you think? Maybe that's better?

    Hehe, the IP checker was just for myself, I use bon.no/ip as IP checker instead of all spam sites. But I'm agree that it should be hidden, and removed from the URL shortener site. Fixed now. ;)

    Thanks again, welcome more feedback! Some "share on"-functions you miss?

    EDIT: And the banner in top is just temporary, I will replace it with a better one.

    That looks much better now. Just used firebug on your Website and "Calibri" looks look, perhaps you could use that as default and have it backed up by Trebuchet MS?

    The social networking buttons are a nice little addition too, I did notice them the first time although there's nothing wrong with them so didn't feel the need to comment :eek:. By the way, you have:

    * Click to select
    * Ctrl+V to copy

    It should be Ctrl + C to copy :p

    Finally consider moving the copyright up on the first page. On a laptop screen it shows the scrollbar, and the only thing that appears when you scroll down is the little copyright text :)

    Design is nice! Simple and elegant.

    My first thoughts on seeing the title of thread were, "Another shortener? Why is this guy wasting time when bit.ly and su.pr are there!" But now, they are completely changed. First, sharing links are nice additions. Recently, I have not seen anything like this on any shortener.
    However, if you want to stand against the giants, you should at least offer:

    1. A bookmarklet for browsers. Or maybe something better like bit.ly sidebar
    2. Stats

    Good Luck!

    Calibri; good idea. Everyone with Office 07 has got it, but i backup with Trebuchet MS, Arial, etc. Testing out Calibri on the submit-button too.

    Haha! :D Thanks, I didn't know that. :rolleyes:

    I'll look at the copyright-thing. Thx! :)
    EDIT: Copyright fixed, better now? (I have a 24" monitor, and works with "anti-maximizing", but not sure on laptop)

    I'll take a look at the bookmarklet-thing, stats is a bit early i think.

    Almost there bud, I'd recommend taking this out of your style sheet:
    html, body {
    	height:100%;
    }

    Code (markup):
    It's making a scroll bar show on short pages, and that really doesn't look good. Took it out in firebug and the front page looked great, Calibri works really well too :)

    Perfect! I'd now rate your site 9/10 (just need to blend in that banner) or replace it with something else.

    Think I'll bookmark your site and use it in the future. Good luck! :)

    Well, bookmarklet will be a good addition. Make sure to not make it iFrame based, many sites block that and it may not work well with many browsers! su.pr bookmarklet has 50% work rate with my Opera browser! :(
    Something like bit.ly sidebar will be great(don't forget to add sharing options there!)!

    No need to ad stats in hurry! Just make sure that you keep them reliable when you add!

    Thats a good suggestion, ishan001! And I'm agree according to browser compatibility, I use Opera myself. :) I'll look at the sidebar-thing and see if I can make something similar in the future.

    I have read a bit about bookmarklets etc., and I think I'll try out a similar to bit.ly's sidebar-thing.

    I've also thought about a Firefox addon, but not sure if this is difficult to make; a bit off-topic but someone here who knows something about FF addons/URL shorters? Thanks! :)
