What are the maximum pages for a sitemap?

    I am using a sitemap index for my multiple sitemaps. You can see the sitemap index here:
    www.idsaham.com/sitemapindex.xml
    Each individual sitemap has a maximum of 500 page links.

    The problem i have is that some of the sitemaps when downloaded by google have errors. When i manually click the the error sitemaps, things are working fine. I hate to say that i have to manually resubmit the error sitemaps before the errors are fixed.This problem happened not only once, but almost every time google download my sitemapindex.

    In this case, i just want to ask if there is a maximum limit for page links for each sitemaps? or is there anything i have done wrong here?
