Google dropped us on ALL keywords

Ok, so I outsourced a couple of link building services for our website. I got 1500 directory listings and a couple blog comments followed by 100 forums posts. Most of the directory listings I thought would take some time and not really have a negative affect on our website.

Any thoughts? I mean, if this were the case, what would stop somebody from taking their competitor's website and getting a cheap service to dismantle them? Could there be another reason we got dropped? It has not even been a full week since we got these services done. We also found that we accidentally placed index, follow on ALL of our sub domains with the same content.

any tips on this would be helpful. I know we did not get BANNED from the Google, we just got dropped on keywords.

Hmmm Let me take a wild guess since you didn't provide a URL and list of keywords you used to rank for...

Thinking... thinking... thinking... Hmmm... still nothing.

Sorry. Crystal ball not functioning. Can't help.

This could be the possible reason, i.e. duplicate contents.

Sounds to me like you either targeted keywords that were far too competitive compared to the quality of work done (in other words, picked the wrong keywords to target) and Google finally caught up and figured out where to best rank your pages, or you got smacked pretty hard for building too many links in such a short period of time. (And pretty lousy links too, I might add.)

Of course, as Canonical said, I can't tell you for certain without knowing the URL.

There could be a lot of factors involved here and I doubt your outsourced link building is the blame.

    How new is this domain?

Is it completely dropped from Google or just your main keywords?

You havn't mentioned the URL and the list of keywords you targetted. You mentioned of numbers of directory links
that acqiured. That either be spammy links which google has caught (may be). Better you work with properly researched keywords (not very competitive), use local search optimisation techniques and various other seo parameters like acquiring good quality links, proper meta title & description with targetted keywords.

you dropped because you did sthg wrong. I have a doubt about duplicate contents issue. One thing it could be is linkfarming. Google is not clear about this issue.
But, one advise read and read again G's guidelines. Your problem may be internal (you use flash, iframes, or you have poor quality content, too many links on homepage, keywords stuffing blabla) or it may be external (you are spamming, cloaking, ...)
If you are sure that you did not make sthg wrong then request a reconsideration.

I'd go with that. SERP is pretty static when starting off.

Ding ding, I think we have a winner - sort of anyway. Not really the duplicate content that would have got you the penalty as you DON'T get penalised for this - more that G thinks you're domain farming...

The directory links won't have helped but at the same time they would most likely just have been discounted - otherwise as you imply, anyone with half a brain could bowl any site off the SERPS

If you can provide the URL, I can take a look and guide you on why you were kicked out...
Other then these, you are kicked due to Duplicate Content

You have to keep on building links. Google had noticed there are more backlinks to your site within a short time frame. So, it dropped. To over come this issue, keep on building regular link buildings. Say, 30 forums posts per day or etc.

You don't get penalized for duplicate content, read it, read it again, tell your friends, write a book about it, self publish that book, start a website, dedicate the website to telling people this and only this, start a band, name it "YDGPFDC", short for You Don't Get Penalized For Duplicate Content. After the band is together, go on tour, be successful, and spread your name around the world in hopes that people will get the message.

That being said, I do find it strange that a 2 year old site is dropped all of a sudden, right after you do some outsourcing. I don't know how the two are linked, but it's rather safe to say that they're connected.

I wouldn't panic just yet if it has just happened a few days ago.

Google is funny like that sometimes. You may log in to find all your keywords back within a week. Here's hoping for you anyway!
