I have an adsense site generating income and I live in Australia. Do I need to pay tax on my earnings?

Technically! No, because you are providing an exported service. Therefore, it should be tax exempt (I checked this with my accountant).

    from what i understand:

the first $6,000 has 0% income tax, but you still need to declare it in in your tax return. its another issue whether your website is business or hobby. if its a business then not only do you add it to your income, you may also claim expenses of your website, such as domain & hosting fees, even portions of your computer costs.

if the income from your website is foreign, the only exemption is from GST, that's if youre registered for GST. you dont need to register for GST if income is less than $50,000.

The ATO is quite helpful if you call them. www.ato.gov.au
