Anyone ever got hostgator commission?

They pay $50 supposedly but how many clicks does it take you to get a sale? 1000 clicks? 2000? 5000? Whats the expected average you are used to and whats your geoip breakdown for those clicks/impressions?

And do you think hostgator does best on US clicks or equally well on all non-US traffic too?

I haven't got a cheque from them yet. But I just started a few days ago. I guess the number of clicks that convert depends on how you market it. I used bluehost at some time and they used to convert quite OK with a review or personal recommendation rather than a banner sitting somewhere so I'm planning to do the same for hostgator. I just signed up the other night. Would also love to hear from others who've had any success with it.

I ended up removing my links to hostgator from my web hosting site since it never converted. Most other companies I had linked on the same page converted every few days or every couple of weeks. Hostgator nothing after two months.

I use hostgator for my site, but they are very unprofessional. I talked to the owner on msnm, and he was swearing and cussing. Not a nice guy at all.

Ive had good results with both US and non US, got my checks right on time too. The wait is just 30 days and then they are processed on the next 1st... so i guess that is 60 days but not like companies like site5 who make you wait 60 days, then the 30 days to process them if they even do it then...

I don't agree, Ive talked to him several times on chat and email and found him to be really nice, he has cleared up several problems personally, with how many big companies can you actually talk to the owner and get something done or just talk about the hosting industry at large??? Very nice guy!

Maybe you caught him at a bad moment...

    Hello,

This is Brent here. I'm a little curious how I cursed you out on msn since I don't even use it, and on top of that cursing isn't my style. Please do share what msn name I supposedly cursed you out from. Thanks

I dont think any ig company chats with the clients on MSN lol.
They have live chats on their websites like hostgator also has.
I think that guy met a affilaite of hostgator who would be acting as the owner and trying to sell the hosting packages.
This is my feeling about that guy who cursed him ;)
    BTW Welcome to the forums.
    Amit

Thanks BWB, I asked, as Hostgator who registred and posted here aluded that he owned the company (which it appears he does :) )

I have been openly critical of their support setup here, I can not comment on their affiliate system (although I was considering promoting it hence my getting an account there). I can not tell you enough how disappointed I was with the support I received there.

Sales is one thing, but a company lives and dies by the reputation it has for support. ESPECIALLY in anything computer related. I admit that when I told people i was going to open an account for a new project at HG I was told not to, because the support was 'not that hot'.

My main concern (And I voice it here as I now have the CEO's ear :) ) was that of actually getting the modules needed to work. The HG sales pitch states how easy it is to be up and running with templates and autopilot. but it ISN'T. I paid to have autopilot installed, it WAS installed, but when I asked about integrating enom into it I was told.

Now While I agree that possibly they should not provide support for certain items, I feel that if they are majoring on certain elements in order to gain a sale, then they SHOULD have some sort of system in place. Eventually I just asked if they could at least have the decency to give me the server details needed to integrate enom into autopilot.

The site in question was set up to provide charities with websites free of charge (with myself paying the extra 42 per month for the templates). but I can honestly say that I am at a loss as to where to go. My problem now is that I have allowed one club to set up their cricket site there, and so I am tied into paying for a service I am not going to be able to use).

I have half a dozen or so Hosting accounts $ of which are re-seller accounts that I use for clients. I recommend hosting companies on average 10 or more times a week. I only make recommendations based on my experience, and that way I am stating opinion and experience. I can honestly say that in the last week or so, I have been asked about HG 4 times, and repeated my experience on every occasion.

HG might be a growing company, but I would be interested to see their churn stats :(

Ah gotcha, sorry I misunderstood :)

I've used one of their basic dedicated server for about 15 months now and i'm very happy with them. A bit different then their shared/reseller packages I guess but I did use a reseller account for about 2 months before I switched. I wanted a dedicated for some of the php codeing I added to it that was pretty intensive. I do think that hostgator's support is better then the vast vast majority out there, and I've seen improvement the last 12 months. My ded server is unmanaged but I've gotten a lot of help with some php modules and higher level support and from talking to those guys it sounds like they have been hiring lvl 2 and 3s as fast as they can which is always good.

Did you not want to just register the domains for them at eNom through the control panel? Was this for a ton of domains? IMO you don't want to automate that part, when I did that and ran a hosting company the fraud levels were ridiculous and enom didn't refund a lot of those orders.

I too would be interested in their churn rate, not many companies put that out there.

Yep, I was told later that the best way to handle it was manual order. but that was from a 3rd party.

So far a few people have said they find HG ok, in fact good, so I think maybe I will put the experience so far behind me, and keep going. Maybe I should blog it. In fact, I will start the great HG blog experience tomorrow :)

    hah :)

Ya enom is kinda hard to setup with any setup, I had it setup with modernbill and that works pretty well but on the enom side you have to get your IP verified by their support that it can run automated orders and that sort of thing. Too much of a pain I think, not sure about auto pilot but i assume its the same. I think i ended up getting it setup with help from wht and forums and just reading enoms crappy support section.
