Well, you can use them anywhere you want. Forum signatures are a nice way to advertise them and I use them. - Digital -
If you have the budget, go all out to promote your site. Otherwise, use the forum signature links, article and directory submission, seo etc. BTW, I don't recommend link exchange / link buying and selling which is disliked by the google.
I guess using forum signatures are good, however be careful, as some forum do not allow advertising at all.
but AFD don't permit the use of live links, thus making a lot of promoting option prohibited too. they must copy the address and paste it to their browser to enter the website I used to promote it using picture with watermark of my website on it. Quite successfull with it.
All the method mentioned is works. However, dont expect too much from adsense for domain, it will be better if you focus on adsense for content since adsense for content is the major earning. Adsense for domain just an additional earning
Depending on your niche, you could probably use social networking sites as well. Forum signatures are fine. If you have some ad budget, this will definitely help.
I select a Particular Niche and then MASS PM thousands of members in my Niche Forums .You can also drive plenty of traffic through participating in Forums.
Promotion...simple as that. I know google really doesn't like link exchanges but I would experiment with them a bit. Also, I would use topsites, directories, and of course some friendly forum signature promotion.
This thread fails... Google does not allow promotion of AFD by any means unless you know how y=to do it outside google's radar...
