So I was learning about Windows Server 2003 at college. We had to setup Windows Server 2003 on our machines and because they are already connected together we could connect to the server using a different machine. But I have a laptop at home and I want to see if I could install it again? but I have no other computers. What would be the benefit of installing it on a stand-alone PC? could I do anything with it once I have installed Windows Server + XP?
your best bet is to get a copy of vmware and run it as a virtual machine if you just want to play around
Actually, jonnyshaw89 meant that if you would like to run Windows server 2003 and do some experiments on it, you can create a different computer on your own computer. For this purpose, you will need to buy a VMware license or a Virtuozzo license. Basically, VMware and Virtuozzo are virtual applications which will allow you to create VDS's (Virtual Dedicated Server) or VPS's (Virtual Private Server). These are the applications which are used to create VDS's or say VPS's on dedicated web servers Hence, if you install VMware or Virtuozzo on your local machine, you will be able to create another computer in your computer So you will have 2 computers in one and then you will be able to do some experiments on one and keep the other one safe. However, you should make sure that the configuration of your computer should be good enough so that both the computers i.e. VDS's will run perfectly. Hope this information helps...
