I was wondering how accurate people thing the Adwords keyword tool is for estimating traffic. For example, I am #4 in the SERPs for a phrase which gets supposedly 5,400 searches per month yet I have only gotten 148 visitors in the past 30 days from Google from that keyword. 2.74% seems fairly low. Any thoughts?
I think you can trust it.Although the searches of that keyword is 5,400,it doesn't mean that you will get 5,400 visitors.Because still others may use that keyword for their websites,of course they will get many visitors too. If you really want to get more visitors, you'd better improve the rank of your website.
Does it definitely say it gets 5,400 for Exact match? The keyword tool often displays Broad as default, meaning that keyword phrase may not have been typed in exactly 5,400 times. IMO 2.74% CTR for being ranked 4th isn't very good, but there are things to think about. Is your natural <title> appealing? Do the ones listed above (and below you) seem more appealing? Do the Adwords Ads seem appealing? A few things to think about. It works the other way too. Adwords Ads can have a poor CTR because the natural listings are more appealing to the user and he/she thinks those websites will provide them with what they are looking for, so they opt to click onto those websites and leave the Adwords Ads alone.
I dont think it is the most accurate tool available, but it does the job as far as their rankings are concerned. Remember that all the tools Google create link together and function as one.
Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not :-P)... Google's Keyword tool uses ESTIMATES. And if a particular user searches "Car Loans" ONE time but clicks up to 12 pages browsing results it will count as 12 full searches. So if Adwords estimates 5,400 searches... In all actuality it may be an estimated 1,500 true unique searches....averaged out ofcourse. At a #4 spot my GUESS would be you would receive 75-100 visits which averages out to be a few visits a day. You may have to wait a few months to possibly get a conversion. My advice would be to add more keywords of similar relevance and traffic. Keep in mind relevant traffic = smart marketing = $$$. It's not about blasting your site with thousands of even just hundreds of visitors. You don't need to to make money.
i also have some top 5 keywords that Adwords estimates 30,000 searches per term. i only get around 500-1000 visitors a month - but its also something...
hello pal, your website ranks on #4 then you can not get total of the traffic because most of the traffic goes to websites which rank on #1 and #2 position for appropriate keyword......... still 148 is not too bad... as far as i know google adwords keyword tool is nice for SEOs................
