Try and use Twitter in a creative way. You need to appeal to people to get them to follow. If you do offer something unique, it should be a lot easier to get followers.

Ya, don't follow people from any tool.
Follow people normally, only then its going to help you otherwise they never read your tweets.

The best thing you can do is interact with users. Reply to their tweets, retweet, and ask questions or encourage interaction with your tweets.

I have found that as mentioned above interacting and writing about something that readers feel as though your really trying to help them rather than just sell them works alot better the business just seems to come in form there!

Post stuff that people want to know about. No one cares that you just went to the restroom or had McDonalds for lunch. This is a good way to get people to unfollow you instead of follow you. Also, don't hesitate to follow others and comment on their stuff. This will help others see you and perhaps want to follow you.

Since i'm into internet marketing, I primarily only follow internet marketers. I findi t extremely useful so I don't have to wade through tons of crap. But, I don't have a huge follower base either but probably more than most.

The biggest thing about Twitter is that you really need to interact you can't just shout your message and expect it to work.

Yeah, I agree with this point so much. Most people don't care of marketing on line, unless they trust you a lot. And interaction such as reply to their tweets or provide help , help gain confidence.

Twitter is a touchy marketing platform. There are somethings that people do that others do not like. Its called Spamming.

If all you do is post your blog/product/affiliate links then your not going to get many followers, people will leave you quick.

Join in conversations and become interesting. Establish yourself as a knowledgable person in your niche. You will then start to see others visiting your blog regularly just to read what you have to say. Its actually easier than you think.

There is a twitter script that allows people to tweet a link to a page of your choice in exchange for a product or service. Works very much like an opt in for for a list, that has been working wonders for me on twitter lately.
